Question Range Rover Sport

What do people reckon? I know they have a reputation of being driven by **** but they are growing on me...forgetting the nasty vulgar ones with 22" alloys and matt white paint jobs.

If you can't beat 'em join em.

Being a range rover, you're likely to have many problems and they seem to be driven by the "ladies who lunch" lot or by people who struggle with the finance payments each month but carry on as they think they've hit the big time!

Nice to drive, expensive to run, poor reliability, bad image as above.

If it HAS to be a RR, get the proper one instead of the council one

Depends what you want one for.
I have a two year old 2.7HSE, its had a couple of minor niggles but nothing major. We use ours every weekend to go to the lakes so its fully loaded with the wife, 2 kids, 1 big dog, luggage and mountain bikes on the back, most practicle car i've ever owned.
Running cost wise its not too bad. 28mpg around town, 35 on a run, insurance 350 quid (40yr old), worst bit is tax at 435 or 240 ish if its a pre 2006 car.
I would advise having a warranty as they can be expensive to repair.
Couldn't give a toss about image as most marques have their critics, Audi and BMW to name a couple.
Nik.

Can you expand on that?
Not very informative to simply say they are a pile of ****......

Thought they were ok when they first came out, but too many posers got them (even though that would be my intention... but it's just not the same when every drug dealer and his dog has one ).

What about the porche cayenne turbo? Got the speed to match the looks and a black one can look pretty mean with a huuuge set of black wheels. Remapped they are stupidly quick. Only thing is the depreciation and the way they drink fuel. Still, you could pick up one a few years old at a large discount.

For something more standard what about the proper range rover? ...now that's a decent machine!

A mate of mine had one as a company car so had it from new.

He had over 30 issues with it within the first twelve months and ended up having it taken back because it was not fit for purpose.

I like the look of them but wouldn't touch them at all

Yeah the Disco might be a better choice; less flash, cheaper, but still not too shabby.

Iv'e been around / in the motor trade for over 20yrs and as such deal with the guys that work on cars all day every day, and if i ask the question of someone in that position and he tells me to stay away and they are **** after 3 years then i don't really need to know anything else.

Sorry if thats not good enough for you, but it is for me

Nobody got any actual relevent information about issues, potential problems etc. Whether people think the 'image' is good or not isnt really relevent in comparison to questions relating to general issues, faults and longevity to live with.

For thr service manager - can you expand on what issues you commonly see and whether its specific to individual models, engines or is it across the whole range?

sorry can't at the moment as i'm out of the country, and the trade.

No doubt you'll have the answer in 6 months and a day as the repair bills start rolling in

Either that or you could sell it for a third of what you paid for it

See if tdw is interested, he seems keen

Since you don't have a wife and kids to cart about and I'm assuming you don't live on a country estate why would you want one???

For a start it's got bigger body panels than his Datsun, so more room for bigger Swastikas.
