Ultimate fast road car for Britain
Stuck this on PH yesterday, but having a slow day so thought i'd share here....
After a conversation at a beery BBQ over the weekend with a few fellow petrol heads one topic that ended up as discussion was about the ultimate fast road car for Britain.
With the roads in the state that they are here and the inclement weather our shores are subject too, if the Queen let you close off a 100 mile strech of your favourite public roads to let your chosen motor stretch its legs, what car would you grab the keys to in order to conquer those 100miles in the quickest time possible?
- In the dry
- In the wet
Assume you will also have to live with it for the other 364 days of the year, assume that you have time to get to know the car, assume a mix of motorway, A road and B road

A Nissan GTR seems to be the best balance of everything. I'd love to use an Atom or an FXX or even a McLaren F1 maybe a DBR9!

Hi Alloy,
Been following the thread on P-H, but not posted as cant find my log in again!
I'd be inclined with the GT-R as well, if it wasn't for my Dogs and not really wanting to stick them in the back of one!
For my situation, it's the RS6 Avant everytime; pace and space. It's certainly be up there with some of the quicker vehicles and you'd get out at the other end as fresh as you got into it.

Indeed.
But it ticks all the boxes.
Not too big
Good luggage space
Four wheel drive so works in all weathers
Not too hard
Easy to drive
Downsides - its a ludicrous brand extension for a Ferrari (it should have been a Maserati)
Alternative could be a Cayenne turbo.
GT-R doesn't work, as like a 911 it is realistically a 2 seater - and it is too hard.

It isn't though, as it's a 2 seater.
The ultimate fast road car should be everything to everyone. So it must be a 4 seater.
I'd agree with trout. Ferrari FF.
Those on a smaller budget. You can't go wrong with an Evo 360, or an Impreza Type 25 MKII.
Can all accomodate the family & luggage. And all go like **** off a stick when required.

There is no real answer to this question. I couldn't live with any sort of Subarishi on a daily basis (and not just because of the image) and a GTR or 911 are out of the question as well due to practicality (though a 911 is more practical than a GTR.
So for somebody like me it has to be an AMG, M power car or Audi RS. We all know that Audi's are sh8te and boring to drive so really it's a modern AMG or M5.
If they do bring out the new M5 in 4wd as rumoured then that will come as close as is possible to the answer for me.
Otherwise, assuming that money is no object, the solution is to have a fleet of cars ie a luxury car, a 4wd and an all out drivers car

A BBQ is something you do socially outdoors with friends......a concept clearly devoid of your lonely life of solitude sitting behind your computer screen.....

lol
Nope the fact is i would choose the GTR in the dry.....but then of course i would
In the wet though i'd prefer something as sure footed as the GTR is in the dry and a little more nimble like a tuned EVO.....
DD.....AMG would be good fun to blast through the 100 mile stretch
Over on PH they are adamant that the weapon of choice should be a radical or something similar....

In all honesty, I dont think there is just 1 car that will cover everything. I would easily choose the GTR as I dont care about the rear seats being useless (they should have made the car a little smaller and removed the seats). But I do have 2 GSDs and need something for them. I think we are onto "garages" of cars.....
