Default Help - wierd sensation and pull braking

This is in my 1998 Seat Ibiza TDi - though I imagine the issue is not car specific!!

I was braking from speed (70ish) and fairly hard - the car pulled a little to the left and wallowed about a bit. I'd almost describe as like being on a boat.

Any thoughts as to what could cause this??

I've checked tyre pressures, none of the tyres are flat, though one or two might be 2 or 3 psi more than others - all are between 31 and 34.

I haven't jacked it up to give the wheels etc a tug, and it's getting dark now.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

I wish - it first happened on the motorway on the way into work this morning. Again on the way home, and several times on the b roads - but I was just making sure there was something wrong!! There is, but what!?

Ah, so it's happened more than once?

Assuming the tyre pressure are ok and all wheels bolted on tightly I'd check the springs first, stick your fingers in the gap between tyre and arch, if one side is lower than the other you may have a broken spring... has it made any loud twanging noises?

Then you could look at your dampers, bounce each corner. It should raise back up and settle. If it repeatedly bounces up and down you need a new damper.

No loud twangs when I've been driving it. One side on rear is about a finger lower than the other. I looked over the springs, they seem ok, the shocks look a little worse for wear, one has some perished rubber at the top.

Time to call in a mates dad, who knows what he's looking at :-)

A finger width could be a broken coil, they're tricky to see if it breaks at the top. Worn 'shocks' could cause wobbliness...have you had a bounce of them?

Had a bounce, seems fine.

Gonna make sure tyre pressures are all correct for the drive home tonight, and if it still does it, I'll get someone to have a closer look at it.
