The wifes looking at getting one of these to replace the seat leon she is currently running, will be looking for a low mileage version just wondered if there was anything in particular to look out for?

 

look out for a type r and buy one of those instead :-\

 

hehe would do mate but need a diesel in the family for economy, thats why I like the type s as it has similar styling as the type r

 

The Diesels have chocolate clutches. I bought one with 48k miles a couple of weeks ago from a dealer (non-Honda) and the clutch was slipping on the way home. Result was a new clutch and dual mass flywheel under warranty. Saved me about £1500

I have a Type R but can offer some info to check on:

Stonechips - paint is wafer thin so make sure theyve been touched and no signs of corrosion

Door rust - check driver and pass top & bottom of door frame for rust (will need to peel back rubber seal)

Clutch release bearing - pull away in first from cold - whining/ whistling sound at biting point. Known fault under warranty. Mines occurred 13k miles from new.

 

Has she driven one yet? Theyve got bad rear visability due to the daft glass spoiler thing.

My old mans got a 1.8se and driving it, really annoys when you look in the rear view mirror and that bloody things in the way!

Might not be a problem for you but, thought it was worth mentioning.

I bought a new one last June - brilliant car all round.

No DPF - so no massive expense if you do small mileages.

Superb looking car IMO - with a fantastic dash.

Everything is as it should be.

The Panoramic Roof is incredible, the Automatic Wipers good and Automatic Lights interesting ... Cruise Control and Dual Climate Control.

The rear view is excellent!! You know why? Because that spoiler blocks following car headlights ........... it really is that good!

There is a knock from the rear which some people put down to the beam rear suspension set-up .... wrong!! It's simply that the exhaust hangers have a gap in them which both ends clunk together. I've inserted solid rubber and noise gone!

One thing annoys me and it may annoy you - it is a two door (looks good) - but the front seats do not remember where they were set before you pull them forward to get something in or out the rear - which is really annoying to me!!! I have marked the setting with a line marker so I can get them back in the place I want them, so it's sortable (but this is a glaring fault IMO).

Interior seats are suede and fantastically comfortable, the rear seats are Magic Seats. The boot is HUGE!!!

The Engine is a peach - 340Nm of Torque pulls you just as well as a Scooby ... but you need to change gear quickly to make rapid progress. The 40-60 accelleration is simple stunning - overtaking is a breeze.

It costs £110 a year to Tax and delivers 50mpg without thinking ..... try hard and you can return 60+

All in all an amazing package, really amazing ... and haggle HARD, these are real bargains for what you get.

Not driven one yet, but I doubt my wife will have a huge opinion on how it drives, as long as she can bounce of kerbs anything will be ok I have been in a few and like the room you get, and that space age dash looks pretty cool, see what you mean about the rear view, guess thats down to personal choice, will watch out for the clutch though, do they come with built in bluetooth?

 

I agree with most of what Pete says. The panoramic roof is good, but I wouldnt go as far as incredible The twin electric roof blinds are a nice touch though.

I'm Getting mid 40s mpg on the 15 mile each way commute so far, so 50+ would seem to be restricted to urban free driving.

I came from an '05 PPP wagon and it is nothing like as quick as that, but then thats not what the OP is looking for. It is definitely better looking than the wagon though!

One weird thing is that it gives you no feel for how quickly you are actually going. It seems to be quicker than it feels and cushions you a bit from the speed, if that makes sense The wagon always felt like the speed it was going, which is one reason its a much better drive I guess.

Haven't been too bothered by the rear view so far to be honest.

Tax is £115 a year from April, but then the wagon is £260.

 

I agree with the speed observation, you are so insulated from the outside that the only indication of speed is the digital readout - of which you are constantly doing a double-take as it's travelling faster than you think ......... seeing 100+ appear is great!

That said, the pull of the 340Nm of Torque is noticeable

Dealer has told me to ring him when I'm on my way so he can make sure it's ready for a test run with fuel in etc. Seems reasonable enough but with the above comments about the clutch I'm going to 'forget' to ring him so hopefully the car will be stone cold

Owned for 1 year now and 10k miles. 58k in total.

MPG averaging 48-50 on the same 30 mile return commute, although with a light foot. Drops to 45-46 in winter.

Needed a new front shocker for the Mot last month as it was leaking badly, which was £250 fitted

Nothing else wrong really, but check the rear discs as they seem to get corroded fairly easily.

The rear view issue often talked about has not bothered me in the slightest.

Yeah that would set alarm bells ringing for me too. How hard is it to make sure its fuelled or pick some up on the test drive? Turn up as soon as place opens I say.

 

well we went today, didn't tell the dealer i was on my way so turned up unannounced. No real problems with the car, clutch had a very low biting point which could Probably be adjusted but overall my wife didn't like it enough so it's off the list! Sticking with the leon for now

 

You need the Italians / Alfa opinion on rear views.....don`t worry where you`ve been, just look where you`re going

 

Thinking of buying a Type S GT, they are gorgeous imo and I miss the torque of my wife's mapped pd130, has anyone mapped the 2.2 Civic or had friend who has?

I have the 150bhp EXGt fully loaded as my executive /fall asleep boring car
I would not bother remapping it as suspension brakes areny up to the job really
Good car for what it is
Get the reversing sensors amd rear camera on it as the rear vision is limited with the silly spoiler
Overall a good long life car and good value at 18k ?
My top of the range is fully loaded and very spacious inside for a family car

Sold mine about 6 months after the thread ended last time around.

You can't map the 2.2 without sorting out the original clutch. It can't cope with the standard power, never mind a re-map.

 

We never bothered in the end, got an Audi instead lol

 

They said that about the mapped 300lbft MK4 Golf TDI's but our clutch was fine, budget tyres are a godsend. We don't tend to push cars that hard on the road though anyway.
