Done the deed
So after the disappointment of the 635d that didn't fit, I have just put a deposit on a nearly new 330d.
Thought long and hard on the 330d vs 335d debate, and finally decided that having driven the 330d and found that fast enough, I would enjoy the better fuel consumption and not risk driving the twin turbo in case I liked it.
Oh, and it's white with red leather.

Why didn't the 635d fit? Shame a friend has one and its a bit of a beast.
We need some pics, white with red leather must look fantastic.

Nice one Disco boy!
Zip this whole fitting the kids in the back is a relative thing in terms of how you define fit. I agree with disco you can't really even get toddlers into the back of these things.
I tried the 997 turbo and though I could shoehorn the kids ( 3&4) in they did not look anywhere near comfortable. I tried the GTR and that was impossible.
Yet there is some 6FT3 owner on here who insists you can, I just don't understand it.
I tried them in the back of a M3 (just out of boredom at the showroom) and that was the very least amount of space they needed to be comfortable.

My daughter is 10 and she has no problems in my 335i coupe. I think it's more of a stuggle when the bairns feet don't touch the floor so they have to stick them out and kick the back of the chair infront.
It does wind me up when work colleagues say I should have something more sensible as I have a daughter. 'FFS I am 30 years old, not 60 and my daughter has legs so can step into the back seat on her own accord', is always my reply.

Me and my sister (3 years younger than me) grew up during dad's car loon phase.
Regularly got squeezed into the back of a 928, uR Quattros, a 308 GT4, 924 Turbos, etc, etc. Dad even decided the 928 was a "camper" once - we had to sleep on the parcel shelf!!! No wonder I'm only 5'8.5" (the .5 is very important)...

The issue is with the length of the legs. My 5 year olds feet fell right in to the narrowest gap between the seats.*
To be honest, access to the back seats of the 3 series coupé is better as well.

I remember now that we've (as in us on here) been through all this before!
I agree for anything more than 30 minutes travel it could be a bit uncomfy for anyone over 4' tall.
So for a regular use car it would be no good.
I just thought a 6 series would have about as much space in the back as a 5 does, albeit only 2 seats as opposed to the 5's 3. (which in theory should give a bit more elbow room).

(or we'll just get an A5 and be done with it.... )*

The 6 has a huge bonnet and plenty of space in the front but very tight in the back seats. It's probably more or less like your 911. I was surprised what a nice car it was to drive actually, I had a courtesy 650 for a week.
The 3 series coupe is much much better. As somebody mentioned maybe my problem is that my kids are at the funny age, they still need child seats (not just a booster) which are a little bulky and their legs poke forward somewhat.

Zip there is a HUGE difference between the space in the back of a 6 and 5 series. The 6 is not just a 5 series with 2 doors as some coupes are. I'm not sure if they even share the same platform to be honest in the way the E Class saloon and E coupe do.

Well thanks for that.
I'd always thought the 6 was the same internally as a 5.
No point me looking at an M6 then, as I had thought about doing.
