I had the previous shape 320i sport, great torque meant not having to change down too often but it wasn't a quick car. I've had 3 325s (coupe, compact, saloon) and those did seem a lot quicker.
The BMWs are a heavy car, heavy steering but do have good build quality - i'd have another if it was 4wd/ fwd and a bit more economical,oh and had a few more toys inside

Best place to go is the UK section of e90post.com
Decent motor but watch out for engine issues - there have been a few with the 20i unit.
Rookymatt on here is a good source of info.

The entry-level petrol engine is the 320i - the only four-cylinder petrol in the line-up, which is smooth and quiet but enjoyable to drive with a 0-60mph time of 8.8
from Parker's
i would get the 325i six cylinders are the best
The 325i brings this down to 7.4 seconds plus it's one of the best engines in the line-up - it sounds delightful and has a responsive and sporty nature, yet still manages to deliver 40mpg.
i have got the 335i :-)

The 320i used to have a lovely 2.2 litre six cylinder engine.
However, due to weight and new eu emissions, BMW had to put in the n46 4 cylinder engine, which is actually the best of the 4 cylinder, petrol engines we make. (don't ask about it's predecessor!, just do a search on google for n42 engine faults)
The e90 is extremely well engineered, and rarely suffers from any gearbox, suspension, steering, electrical issues.
Only thing that is common (plus watchdog have mentioned) is the 19" alloy rims cracking due to crap design coupled with a low profile, runflat tyres
