Default Hypothetical question

Heres a question for you fellow petrolheads...

If you had £30k to spend on a car what would you go for?

I do have a few caveats though and these are non-negotiable.

1. The car must be second-hand.
2. The car must be German. (My last four cars were two Impreza's and two Nissan 350Z's so nothing Japanese)
3. The car must be a coupe, no saloons.
4. It has to be extremely fast.

I have a short list of about 5-6 cars but there is one standout car for me which I really want. I won't reveal it just yet.

So what would you go for??

E92 (coupe) M3s just coming into that price range.
And B7 RS4s are in there but no available as a coupe.
Mazzer Gran Tourismo a possible contender?

...squeeze the pips a little harder and I know someone selling an extremely fast coupe.

German, 0-100 around 9s, and it is definitely second hand

Love it - but even allowing for the mileage (barely run in for a Merc) that is scary depreciation!!!!

Matteeboy hit the nail on the head at the first attempt, albeit was a small list of cars.

I really fancy the E92 Coupe M3 as it seems to tick every box as an all rounder.

I've also considered a remapped 335i, an M6, an Audi S5 and a Porsche 911 997 C2S.

I've also glanced at the Audi RS4 and the E60 M5 although both of these only come in saloon guise. I don't think I would like the SMG box fitted to the M5 / M6 though.

Top of my list is a manual E92 M3 Coupe, any other ideas??

Shame it's only German....

For £32K, you could have a proper sports car - 355 GTS

S'pose a Porker would do tho

The only other thing that springs to mind is a Mercedes CLS 55 AMG, coupe shaped but four doors obviously. Very, very fast.

The 997 C2S, if you can get one in the price, is definitely something you should drive before buying the M3.

I had the same dilemma in April and went for a BMW 335i. I'd love an m3 but couldn't justify the extra running costs.

A third of the 100+ 996 turbos on Pistonheads are under £30k at the moment and one, although sold, is less than £20k.

I was looking at getting one of these at some stage, prices seem to be taking a hammering for some reason.

105,00 miles - I'm not surprised it went for less than £20k.

I agree, although there was one earlier in the year with 130,000 that went for £26k.

They're not all high mileage though, a good proportion of those linked are around the 50,000 miles mark.

Ive not looked at the history on them but it looks like there could be a few bargains.

You go on the PH Porsche forum, so you'll know that even those buying for good money have suffered some big bills.

You don't have to tell me that!

I've had some biggish bills in my time with the Pork but considering the cost of the car new, the odd £1-2k bill is pretty small fry.

I think a couple have bought for top dollar and then been hit with about 4 or 5ks worth fairly quickly. Which is worrying no matter how deep your pockets.
I still fancy one though Zip, I've only been in them a couple times but that was on track and they are immense. If I recall correctly you bought yours off a friend, so know its history well. I could be interested when you decide to move on - despite the colour . Not too soon though I've only just bought this Skyline.

My little bills have been nowhere near as much as some peoples - I take it as a necessity of running a £100k+ car.

I'll keep you in mind in a year or so time when mine's on it's way out.
Despite the colour.

997 C2S or a 996TT if you want AWD and tuning.

Thanks for the replies gents.

Glad to see there is nothing there I hadn’t considered beforehand. I like the Porker 996T but feel it looks a little dated nowadays although it does sound like an amazing motor. I prefer the much less affordable 997T. The Bentley was a big surprise as I didn’t think they were that affordable but I’d feel too much like Steven Gerrard driving that thing.

Z4M coupe its got all the performance you need, and it would defo be high up on the Top Gear cool wall.

If not then it would have to be a AMG of any sort.
