Caterfield Type Track Toys???
Hi Guys,
Continuing from my previous post in general.
My route of action is undertaken so just a case of lots of research now.
Basically my decision is i want something RAPID but RWD and cheap to run on track.
Budget around 7-8k.
Always fancied a bike engined caterham.
just found a nice MRN Vortex RT+. That would be perfect but insurance wont cover.
Anyone got experiance of these? I have non so all advice welcome.
Esp anywhere that does cheap insurance. AF want 890! Kitcar want 590.
Cheers

You could build your own depends how handy you are with the spanners and you can pick up a Fireblade/R1/GSX-R1000 donor motor quite cheaply (theres loads of crash damaged ones about just beware of anything thats been dropped on its side whilst running as some of the bearings will be fooked!)Heres some more info bear in mind though its a 2001 spec Blade engine the later 2004 motors have more power!http://www.performance-car-guide.co....fireblade.html

Pop over to Locost Builders as you'll see a variety of manufacturer sections there that will help. There is a special section for BEC's as well so you should easily get enough information from there.
I've got a BEC and it has a 919 Blade engine in it and it's fine for the road but on track I have missed the extra cc/bhp of the larger engines so R1's, Hayabusa, ZX12's, etc.. are good motors to look for in a car.

Yes "its only 900cc"
Yes would probably be looking forbusa/R1.
Im interested to know the changability of the engines.
Im hoping they are going to be as funner track toy as id imagine.

Engines can be changed quite easily - I reckon I could do an engine change on my BEC in maybe 10 hours. Maybe less.
As for fun on track, they are a lot of fun - but they can also be quite a challenge to drive well, the power band needs managing on track and you might find it "interesting" in the wet.
