Inlaws have a 3.0D Sport and it is very good indeed. I feel a prat in it but it's such a useful machine.

Yep, best in its class by some margin IMHO.
I couldn't get on with the old one because of the lack of space (nothing wrong with it otherwise) but the new shape has everything.

All the Mums at my boys school love 'em .

My 3.0d sport has done 110,000 miles now- largely trouble free. I think the only major expense was a manifold at about 80,000 miles.

It does everything I need it to do- three kids no problem, dogs no problem, tows boats and race transporters no problem.

20-25 mpg around town, up to 38 on a run. Will cruise across continents at 100+ all day long.

The standard fit michelins are good for circa 30,000 miles, doesn't use oil or anything else.

I think ours is probably worth about 12k now so not worth selling- and I can't see it depreciating too much more.

4.6is here, 2003-2004 model and goes like shoite of a shovel, 347 bhp and loads of torque. Has one of the widest rear benches found on a road going motor which suited us for 3 child seats. I averaged 25 to the gallon back from Kent to Belfast, local driving in town has it down to around 17-20 but on a run longer than 5 mins is pretty much on a par with my bugeye wrx. Fantastic motors, only downside is the gearbox but hey, that's what extended warranties are for.
