What should my dad buy ?
#1
My dad is after a new car, currently has a mint 13 year old Golf GTI (and a Fireblade) but now wants a new/nearly new car that is both bigger and quicker than the Golf.
He likes the Rover ZT 190 and Lexus IS200. I am suggesting a Accord type R. Any other ideas ?

Rover ZT 190 - Looks ok, goes quite well, handles quite well, but the V6 ZS is the better car
Lexus IS200 - Looks great, but aint exactly fast!
Accord type R - My mate has one, quick but needs to be screwed
Out of your orignal 3 it would have to be the Honda.
Why not get a Scoob?!

Not sure he wants a Scoob and associated aggro, I will try and persuade him otherwise, He wants something reasonably quick but he has a Fireblade when he wants to go really quick.
I think a nice MY02 in a nice sober colour may be appropriate though, where can you get them from on import and what kind of price ?
Is there a waiting list from Subaru dealers ?

For imports try -
http://www.litimports.co.uk/subaru
http://www.keyring-cars.co.uk
http://www.4wdcars.co.uk
http://www.snoop4.com
http://www.well-lane.co.uk/
Expect to pay ~ £16.5k for one where you have to wait and £17-18k for one in stock.

he should buy a IS200 and get either an Altezza motor or the IS300's
it would make more sense to drop in a supra TT engine i've seen that being done alot recently but turbocharging the IS300 motor is popular.
other than that an Integra Type R

POC, nice car but I couldnt really see my old man driving it!
He's not quite ready for a Honda Civic 1.4 with car rug but I think he's looking for something a little less in your face !
I think the Lexus is out asw he has read the review I gave hime, its slower than his old Golf GTI.
I dont think tuning would be an option, The mag I gave him had a supplement about the Accord Type R which I reckon he should go for, the Integra only has 2 doors and is a little small for his requirements (3 grand kids !)
Thanks for all your suggestions
Mark

I have the Volvo in this family, The Saxo surprised me the other night and I had to cane mine to put any distance between me and it, I suspect from a roll on (as opposed to a standing start) I would have murdered it easily.
A VTS has enough to have a go but VTR's are wasting their time.

Octavia RS?
Positives:
Quicker than the golf, cheaper than the golf, more room than the golf, longer warranty than the golf
Negatives:
Its a Skoda (but for some thats not a problem!)

Have suggested the Octavia RS, a colleague here has a Octavia 1.8 T which he rates so I ahve suggested it to the old fella, an no the name isnt a problem, whereas I think BMW is.
