Had a play with a GTR today
Heading to MK today and had a silver Nissan GTR behind me (I thought it was a 350Z to start with! lol). I was following my mate and he then pulled in leaving an opening in front of me on the dual carriageway, so I put my boot down and knew this guy would follow, thing is though, it didn't catch me ??? My mate said he heard both of us booting it past him so the guy must of been trying but I would of expected to have been annihilated but was pleasantly surprised
Got to the A5 and he turned off after going at it again, so I put my hazards on just to acknowledge him and got nothing back ! lol, oh well.

Unless you are running 450 plus with similar torque, I dont think he would have been flat out. I have been in one of these and they are on a different planet. This one made a mates 911 C4S feel like it was going backwards.

This is shaping up like the classic thread:
OP (sheepishly and all innocent like): "had a race with [insert respected powerful car] and I appeared to win. Pretty sure he was trying? Pleasantly surprised!"
Everyone: "Yeah right", "no way pal, my mate has one and...", "he wasn't trying mate", "he's not a child killing road racing ricer like you", "etc".
then, someone: "what power you got mate"
then, OP: "Oh, just 600bhp and 200kg of weight loss"
finally, Saxo Boy: "...and you wonder how you won?"

I really don't understand these threads, what is the op after? a medal or a group pat on the back?
You put your foot down ans "knew" this guy was going to follow, what did you expect, him to charge upto your rear bumper and give it a kiss? As speeds increase, the distance between two car is also going to increase to allow for a safe distance.
Is your mate a specialist in what cars sound like when they fly past him on the motorway?
At the end of the day, this guy was in basically in a supercar and you were, I'm guessing in an Impreza of some sort, probably modified, there is no comparison.
The fact that he didn't acknowledge you is probably down to the fact that all he saw was some guy in a family mans saloon with a spoiler.

no comparison unless it was running similar power of course, and many are. but even then i suspect the impreza would be an insignifant 'family mans saloon with a spoiler' whilst the GTR is the coolest kid in class. And unless the The GTR driver came from mars, he would know full well what an impreza is.

Anger, while I respect the time/effort/money that goes into modding a classic to 450bhp....it is also the case that you have added around 60% to your original power, no doubt through some extensive and evasive modification.
It's my understanding that 600bhp is possible from a GTR from rather basic modifications. This represents just a 25% power increase over stock and, at 600bhp with that gearbox, my guess is it could probably beat you. Give it a 60% power increase to 763bhp and you'd probably not know where it went.
There's not really much point to my post. I suspect you know/accept all this. I just don't see too much point in comparing highly modified to stock or hardly modified. It works the same when spotty teenagers come on here with turbo'd Nova's that have walked away from an STI. Sure it may be faster.....but it's still a Nova

.....and you can buy a crotch rocket for far less. Or throw yourself off a cliff for free and go from 0-200mph in like 3 seconds. We could play that game all night

I think you'll find altitude (thickness of the air) and shape of the object (drag through the air) is a relevant consideration. While we are on the topic, I read recently that some nutjob was going to attempt to parachute out of a ballon at 120,000ft in the hope of breaking the sound barrier on his way down

Right,
To put the record straight, my motor is only a standard 04 STI, nothing more nothing less !! Not some power hungry Ferrari eating classic !
ScatRat
I am not surprised as I know these things are mental !!!
Saxo Boy
Thanks for the comment but NO, I'm not trying to say "oh look at me, I have a have a 600bhp monster and race around the streets all day like a boy racer!" at all. I was purely wondering if other people had had any experience with these as I would like to hear about it because I know they are excellent cars! Thanks anyway.
Dedrater
If you would all give me a pat on the back, that would be great !!! Are you serious??? Not to repeat myself but
Obviously you need to be specialist to know what a car sounds like when they accelerate harshly !!! I'm sure everybody would agree to that as I have no idea!!!
I know that this guy was in a supercar and it is a different league, would I have done it had it been a Ferrari behind me ??? Yes, not to be a dick but why not? If I was the guy behind I would of thought, this guy wants to see what I have got, NOT, look at this f ing idiot in his family saloon which is obviously slow as hell and not bred from a rally car !
Maybe that is the reason for him not acknowledging me aswell, maybe you have hit the nail on the head? But maybe some people would have noticed I wasn't some boy racer in Nova trying to take on a Bugatti Veyron !!
Termintor X
Fair one, they are awesome cars, but thanks for not commenting like the above !!!

I don't know why 99% of Subarus even think of bothering. A GTR with basic mods accelerates in 6th gear like an STI with similar mods will do in 3rd. Just using part throttle in auto mode can see it take off so that someone would think you were racing, but you're not even trying.
It is not the Enterprise, but compared to most Subarus it may as well be.
GTR with only a remap in the UK without fuel additives is 11.0 at 127mph IIRC with ~1.75 60'. Many standard ones get mid 11s at over 125mph, obviously not the one you raced though. The best on stock turbos is 10.6 in the US and one on stock engine and gearbox just did 9.9 at 147mph, full weight, but drag radials & uprated turbos running about 800 to 850 BHP.

Team, I don't think anyone was having a go at you. No need to rant
However, I can say that a standard 04 STI honestly wouldn't stand a chance of keeping up with a GTR. Flat out drag racing, it would have come past you like you were in reverse. This seems to be a case where, "he wasn't trying" genuinely applies. Shame really, my favourite 'races' are when someone in a superior machine shows you real power.
On that note I once raced a modifed R33 Skyline in my S2000. Now I ran 13.7s down the strip, so the Honda was no slouch. This thing actually got out of sight!!! As in, a spec on the horrizon!! I got dropped sooooooo hard
