Warrender have a sunny gtir in in black i think, not modified in any way so pretty good starting point, think the price is under 8k too and its suppose to be one of the last ones built... check out their site at www.warrender.co.uk they use to be in bolton but have since moved to nantwich in cheshire me thinks.

That car looks nice, but is down as a '97 R... from the pic it looks like a K-plater (1992-1993), these cars were made in Japan from 1990-1994... Also, it looks like it has aftermarket wheels on, 16s maybe from the look of them. By all means go check the car out if you can, but this isn't "one of the very last few unmodified Sunny GTi-Rs in the UK" ...last ones are M-reg ('94) and this one has been modified
Test drive as many as you can, getting a modified one isn't such a bad thing as long as it's been done properly (i.e by a recognised tuner/rolling road) - especially if boost has been raised.
I presume you've checked out the buyers guide/ things to look for, on the Owners club site? Read that thoroughly - lots of R specifics in there. My advice to you would be to do what I did, and look on the yahoo list, or the Resources page ( http://www.gti-r.org/ ) for Gti-R's for sale.
You're best off buying one that has been owned by someone on list, who has sorted out the expensive problems, so you have some sort of history to the car (you can always check up on them by searching the archives ). From my experience, the worst examples were always from dealers, and they were usually the most expensive! Where abouts are you based? The best R's are up north, I found mine in Cambridge (I live in London), still standard (and restricted to 112mph)- find a good one and you will be laughing, good luck

Thanks, I think I'll leave the Warranders one well alone, if they can't notice something as obvious as the wheels being changed what chance is there of them noticing anything else?
Looked at an 'N' reg one last weekend, and less said about it the better.
I've actually been looking for a non-standard one, with at least the clutch and brakes upgraded to something approaching suitable, while avoiding anything running more than 1 bar.
Memski, I think I spend more time looking around there and gtiroc.com than anyone else I'm on the yahoo groups as well, but there seems to be very little for sale. I have asked about a couple, but trying to get hold of owners appears to be a tad difficult.
I'm based in Glasgow, so north is definitely good (although some of us would say Cambridge is south )
The only advantage of taking ages finding a car is that it gives me time to save for a FMIC
