Citroen DS3
Anybody had a good look at these yet?
Test drove the 1.6 turbo version in DSport trim and love it dearly. Funky design (important to missus), expected good residuals (not that I care much about that) and also potentially tuneable.
Solid build (I know, on a Citroen), and quiet at speed (90mph and no need to raise voice to talk). Interior design I love, exterior is more acquired taste I think. More room inside than a Mini (and lets face it, this is where this car is targeted) and much more kit for less cash.
Engine and 6 speed box are both excellent. Engine pulls strongly in all but 6th, cannot believe it only has 150bhp/177ft/lb. Box is short shift and very positive. Oh and the brakes are excellent. Ride is comfortable but firm and with little body roll. Hustles along nicely.
And if you are female (or ghey) it gets lots of looks.
I'm spec'ing one up now
Cheers
Ian

Awesome car, saw it on the launch last year in Frankfurt. Prices aren't as scary as you might imagine. The 150 is just a badge, it makes more than that, its 156hp iirc. think. As for tuning, its the PSA/Mini unit, which has taken a tune very well, the 210hp version will be on show Geneva next month.

We took a look at the Fiat 500 and dismissed it straight away on cost vs. size & kit. Mini is old hat now but still a nice car but I feel overpriced for what it is (OK, its a BMW). So DS3 was on the cards as it suits my needs for having a B-road blast and long motorway trips (6 speed box + cruise control) and the missus needs of it being funky but with some poke.
Going to talk turkey this morning at Citroen dealer, see if we cannot do a deal.
Cheers

Deal done, DS3 1.6THP, in DSport trim, black with white roof/trim ordered.
On its way either next couple of weeks if one to spec. is already made and in country or April if not.
Got a really good deal and not shafted on trade-in of our C2s. Nice

Seen one of these in yellow with a black roof on show at the local cinema last night....really caught my eye, really nice looking stylish car, and going by the comments above it seems to go well too
It was getting some attention at the cinema last night anyway, the women seem to love it

Hi Richard,
No more pics just yet (it's banging filthy right now) but I'll get some up soon.
As for a few weeks on, well, it's done just over 1500 miles now and is loosening up nicely. I've done a few 200 mile round trips to work HQ on motorways as well so got a good overall feel for it now.
Love being sat in 6th on the motorway doing 85mph at under 3k rpm. And if you boot it, it still picks up nicely without having to change down. Also, a quick flick of the indicator stalk gives you three flashes without having to hold it, so lane changes are relaxed. When traffic allows, the cruise control works really well and in addition to cruise, you can also set a speed limiter which is handy for those long 50mph road works sections.
Now its run in a bit, I expected the rattles to have started all over the car by now, but nothing to report.
Also managed to get the BlueTooth system working now. So doesn't matter if I or the missus jumps in the car, the system just syncs with our phones and everything can be done from the steering controls, including scrolling through phone books etc. Our boys love it too as they have iPhones, so when they are in the car, their music collections on their phones stream via BlueTooth to the stereo. Nice.
Still getting lots of people coming up to the car in car parks etc. asking about it. Some love the looks, some hate it, but they all think it is great Citroen have done something funky again.
Also found out that maps are now available to give it a good boost of power, so when I get bored with what it has, it's just a few hundred quid away from more power with a simple remap. Couple of people have already done it, with one chap in Belgium reporting just shy of 200bhp on his with no other mods (taken with a pinch of salt of course).
As for country road blasts, fantastic. I don't need to do 100mph down a twisty lane to have fun in this. Overtakes are done in no time (if you have the right gear) and feel unhurried. Ride quality is excellent but so is the handling, usually mutually exclusive on all the cars I've had before. Love to throw it into a corner at low speed and boot the car out, it really is rewarding and fun (and can still make the missus scream by doing it ).
I still love it.
Cheers

Thanks for that Ian - sounds really sweet
I'm starting to consider getting rid of the Scooby - had this one for almost 5 years and it's at 100k miles.
Currently thinking about a new DS3 or a 4 year old TT (new shape - comes in around £16k-17k).

umm. Pretty car for the girls but its a Citreon so it will break, be near bottom of reliability tables and be worth about £20 in a couple years time!
Fair play to them for producing something a bit different but think they have to , to keep going!
