Default Who likes white cars?

I sat staring at this for three hours yesterday. Was quite taken by it in the flesh.

Whilst I was there a customer also came to collect their White 09 997 Turbo!!

So what do we think of white cars?

Think it depends on the car TBH. Seen a White 997 Turbo and thought it look awfull. Yet a White GT3 look the dog Bollox.

That White 135 Coupe doesn't look too bad, and there are a couple around I've seen that still look good in the flesh. White Audi A4's & R8's look good.

The White Lambo LP640 in Evo look very nice.

Not sure I could own a White car though. Think I'd bottle it at the last minute, and go for another colour.

I think they look awful on a bog standard car but lovely on something sporty like the above cars. Surely it's a good colour to match if you have a ding and require a respray.

Jim - just brush some Dulux onto the ding!

Depends on the car completely - some carry it off really well (3 series E92 coupes, most Porkers, some Jap rally reps), some look dire (all Mercs, all Range Rovers, etc)

Some look amazing but I'm not sure I would have one. Agreed on the white Porsche, theres a guy not too far from me that has a white 997 GT2, which looks the muts!

I think if its on a fairly rare car, it seems to have the right impact, but on repmobiles etc...

I'd def have one of these though:

But it would have to be the CSL, not just the 'normal' M3.

Looks great on small sporty stuff, but nothing marks you down as a **** as much as a white RR Sport.

I was in Porsche Guildford the other day and they had a c4s just like that in there, Its amazing in real life. If I could have afforded it (through almost any means) I would have driven out in that thing.
Big fan of white cars here!!!!!

A neighbour of mine has just bought a RR Sport Autograph in Lambo Orange

Brave, but a bit if you ask me.

As has been said, white looks great on only the most sportiest of sports models - GT3/2, M3, Suzuki Swift Sport.....

That white M3 looks lovely. I never knew they did them in white until I saw an episode of 5th Gear and one of the presenters had one as his own car.

From what I recall, didnt he have that painted white and had the CSL parts added?

My understanding is that genuine white M3's in the UK are like rocking horse poo, most have been painted white. Rumour has it (according to one of the M3 forums) that there is less that 10 genuine Alpine White ones supplied in the UK. But that is just a rumour

The one above is a CSL

What I don't understand is the one on 5th gear has the face lift front which I owned but they didn't make an M3 or a CSL with that face lift and that would be a massive mod to do, wings, bonnet, bonnet etc....

Makes you wonder if its even an M3

Looks amazing when clean. Looks awful about 15seconds later

I also like the Candy White Golf GTI (my current one is the opposite - black )

The thing was that white used to be one of the poverty spec colours along with flat blue and basic red.

It also made a car look like ex police/council van/taxi because it was a cheap colour to have. now the cops have moved to silver in most cases (because it actually upped the resale value) white is coming back.

That said a white, basic car still looks cheap and things like a low end merc still look like taxis. sporty design negates that and it looks good on some cars. the new Subaru hatch looks ok in it because it hides those rear lights quite well.

5t.

I think its just a fad, like when silver was all the rage a few years back. That said, I agree there's a few modern sporty cars that suit white. I don't think it suits big obnoxious 4x4s & I've seen loads of Q7, RR Sports & even a Cayenne in white & they look ghastly. I've always bought black cars & don't usually have any problem shifting them when its time to sell.

I love white cars - they're easy to shade in for customers

Also, my first car was a white Impreza - looked lovely on 18" Turini's

White is not a 'fad' at all. It may have started as a bit of a fashion statement but now has become a sort of rediscovered design classic. After all, what other colour would be better to appreciate the lines and curves of a car than white?

That's why good looking cars look good in white, and ugly cars don't. In the same way as a naturally beautiful woman can just wear a t shirt and jeans and have you nursing a semi.

The white paint of today is also very different to that flat boring stuff used years ago, its now metallic/pearlescent (sp?)

Any desirable/attractive car I've seen looks great in white eg 997, M3, R8, lambo. I saw the current .Merc C class AMG the other day in white, stunning. I think the upcoming M5 in white with a carbon fibre roof will look fantastic.
