Missus has a TD4 08 plate one, it really is a cracking piece of kit. BMW diesel engine with 160bhp. It isn't fast but it isn't slow!

The terrain response programs really do work, the only limiting factors to its off road abilities are ground clearance and the tyres you put on it.

I had a 06 plate TD4 Sport - not a bad spec as standard (18"s, half leather, etc) but the TD4 does have a common problem. When you try to pull out of a junction the revs die so you either have to wait for a big gap in traffic or rev the nuts off when setting off.
I bought a plug in tuning box (synergy i think?) which has several settings selected via a **** on the box so you could alter the performance below and above certain revs. This cost around £80 and made a hell of a difference

I could be wrong but the latest shape Freelander which came out in 2007 has a 2.2 litre 160bhp engine, but it's a Ford/Jaguar diesel (made by Peugeot?), not BMW. That was old shape Freelander, which apart from the engine, was a very underwhelming car.
