Civic Type-R vs Standard Scoob WRX MY01+
#1
On paper to 100 the CTR is quicker than the New Age Impreza WRX. I just wondered if anyone has come up against a CTR on the roads in their new age impreza and what the outcome was ? I'm not interested in knowing about old turbos as I know they are faster........

I've been trying to resist here.
Last Friday evening I was waiting at some traffic lights in Hampshire somewhere. A blue MY01 came up behind then changed lanes to be alongside me.
We both glanced...
The lights went green and we both went for it (amazingly for me with no wheelspin!).
Up to 30 the Scooby was in front. From 30 --> 55 my Honda made up ground but then dropped back a bit on my gear change to 3rd. From 60 --> 80 I made up ground so that we were neck and neck (or at least a good photo finish), had we carried on I think the CTR would have pulled ahead up to 100.
After that we both backed off, obviously being sensible drivers and this being on a 60mph limit dual-carriage road.
In summary. From a standing start there's nothing in it although the WRX would probably have a slight edge due to 4WD traction. From a rolling start I think the Honda would probably have it.
Mind you with a pre-MY01 Scooby it could be different. If you look at the figures a Type-R is quicker than an MY01 0-100 but not as quick as the older model.
Still having owned both, it would be difficult to choose one in preference over the other as they're both great cars in different ways.

Tell you what...
they are both dead fast and both just as easy to get knicked if you race them together...
oh - and whichever car has the better driver in it will be fastest
