Drove my mark 2 capri 3.0s for the first time in ages last night and had forgotten how fast they are my mate was following in his vectra sri and when i put my foot down he couldnt keep up Lots of people on here must have had these cars in their day and just wondered what it is worth now? bought it 3 years ago and its just been sat in a garage ever since. They are good fun to drive but trying to get the power down in first is a joke

don't forget the bag of sand in the boot....mate had mk1 3000 GT I lost it big time on a 90 right hander...loverly car v quick
we were all driving mk1 & mk2 Lotus cortina's similar speed but cortina handled better mind that was a while ago early 70's
not much idea on value prob dependent on condition, colour, model
I know the last Brooklands models v collectable

Brilliant cars...you just had to remember to look out the side window to see where your going

Had loads of them over the years (till about '87'ish) inc 2.8's as well and had loads of fun.

Haven't got a clue what yours is worth, but if its history'd up, etc, and in good nick then have a look in the Trader as they seem to be making storming money at the moment.

A lot better that the wanna be Probes and Cougars....

Paul,
One of best places to judge value is the ads in back of Classic Ford. Probably see a few 3.0 Capris for sale in there.
What I have noticed in the last year with 2.8 Capri values is that there are 2 distinct camps which are widening - doggy, cars for £6-700 or less and nicer ones worth keeping starting at about £1500 upwards.
People are realising that they are a great fun, weekend car which you can fix yourself...........and not too slow in the dry......plus they make a great noise!!

I owned an XR4i for 3 yearsand it was one of the best cars I've had - possessed real character and effortless pace compared to a smaller engined hot hatch which made you feel like you were trying hard to go fast.

Flippin right about the side windows. My brother stacked his Mk II GT round a left-hander after only 2 weeks of ownership (mind, he was a hooligan driver and only 18) and put it straight through a Chinese restaurant.

Who did the Bodie and Doyle sketch, was it Smith and Jones? "Drive down there!!" "Why?" "Coz there's a pile of cardboard boxes we can plough through!"

I think the noise of a v6 on full chat is excellent the car has done about 5000 miles in about 8 years I think and had history to prove that. It is metallic brown and has 78,000 miles on it. It has no real visable rust but I have never looked under it. only paid £500 for it 3 years ago top fun to drive and I used to hate capris (not old enough to appreciate them first time around ) Alot of people slate these cars today though and I half expected alot of p1ss take here but I am suprised

Doesn't Willie Green have a 3.0s Capri that he uses to "relax" at the Nurburgring?

Apparently the motors been tuned slightly, and the suspension and brakes have had a fair amount of work - But he runs rings around the Porkies in the twisties!

My mum's boyfriend used to build and race these brutes.

He had an old 3000GT and 2.8i both heavily modded, very loud dammn quick but show them a corner and you could feel the chassis flex, scary even as a kid.

Still lots of happy memories,

My dad absolutely loves Capris and up until a few years ago that is all he ever owned.

I am now mentally scarred due to the fact that I was occasionally driven to school in the horrible things...

My Uncle has a 3100RS Straight out of the 70's and very cool. runs loads of negative camber at the rear, and leaves Cossies with regularity!

My first three cars were Capris......and I'm only 26, so this was way past the days of them being considered cool.

I just loved the 70s styling and tuneability of the things

Whats wrong with being driven to school in a Capri, my old fella used to drop in to pick me and a mate up if he was passing the bus stop at the right time, bear in mind a thousand kids were leaving school and trying to get on a bus it was a god send, on occasion he would give it a load and join the A34 with the tyres pouring with smoke all the way through 1st and 2nd, cant do that in a Scoob, grip is very usefull but not as much fun as wheelspin !

Call me old fashioned but nowadays if I see a pristine 2.8 or even better a Mk1 I rates higher on the cool-o-meter than a Scoob (a standard one anyway), the naff days have passed, the Capri is coming back !

Ford are going to be building a new Capri with 300 BHP,

mmm 300 bhp

Was it Doyle that had the 3.0s in The Professionals?

Quite fancy a nice 2.8i meself

Saw a Brooklands in Autotrader once for 15k but there were others for about 4k.
Prices are on the up for nice ones that's for sure.

I think I saw the one for 15K, If I remember it had only done tiny (delivery) miles.

Cheaper than a new Scoob though.....

I have a friend that has a mint 240bhp 280 Brooklands that was featured in the recent Capri car show (NEC I think). He was offered 7g for it (refused).

I had my *** totally whupped by a T reg tubbed Capri at the beginning of the month....but then it did have a 502ci (8.0l) Chevvy big block under the bonnet

The owner said he gets regular 9.1 second quarter mile times (eek!)

It sounded awsome and he was lighting up the back tyres between traffic lights (Massive drag Hoosier tyres). About as subtle as a sledgehammer... I was grinning for ages after

Capris rock big styley!!
I have a couple of mates with capris. One has a 2.8 which he has just blown up so has decided to fit a half X-pack and 3.9 V8 the other has a 3.5 V8 nitrous monster with a full x-pack and cossie whale tail. Very silly cars and very cheap too.
A really good 2.8i can be picked up for £2000

3 years as a Scoobynet member and at last a Capri thread!

My 2.8i still lies in the garage under nut 'n bolt restoration. All the hard work is done, it runs and stops, but just needs FINISHING. One day, one day...

Dreading the actual day when it is ready for the road. I can't work out whether it will still make me grin from ear to ear, or feel old, tired and slow. It's been nearly 5 years since I last drove it. Flicking it around wet roundabouts on opposite lock used to be a joy, now it is too nice to take out into the rain.

Top capri I have seen in the flesh (other than the 502ci one the other week) was a pair of mint black Tickford Capri's the first time I went to Santa Pod.

Best one I've seen in the movies is the 5.7V8 race car in the end of 1985 film Shaker Run.

that 4x4 capri is going to worry alot of scoobies and probably beat most of them I would have thought its 0-60 time is faster than Craig H's I think and thats got to be one of the fastest imprezas around. Can you imagine a capri beating a scoob?

The capri is on one of Jeremy Clarkson's videos.I've only ever seen one car beat it and that was..........a manta!Seriously. It does have a 5lv8 and nitrous though and did the quarter in 11.8-road legal too.

First car I ever owned was a 2 litre S, which I managed to smash up within 72 hours (doh!!!, got it repaired and enjoyed 18 months of happy driving, until one night it got nicked (double doh) It was found minus everything. Ever since then I've always wanted either a 3 litre or 2.8I. So much so me and the other half had a bit of a misunderstanding a fortnight after I got the Scoob, we're just about talking again!!!

If you relly want to check out a V.strange Capri, get Aprils' Classic Ford magazine and check out the 2.4 TURBO. This was made by Ford in Germany at the same time as the 2.8I was being tested. Apparently it is only 1 of 4 or 5 that ever made it to the UK, the others can no longer be found

Ed.
