That beings back memories of an old XR3I I bought years ago, where the engine blew, and having took over the rocker witnessed something very similar. Black death I think they call it.! It was a very quick education to me in terms of the importance of oil and changing it.

I remember checking the oil on my diesel Astra (my first diesel) at about 5k miles. It was completely black, I had a panic, went to a dealer, felt a complete fool when told that diesel engine oil goes black almost straight away - doh!
