c class
i work for MB, had a c sport for about 2 years, pretty much since they were launched, had petrol 280 and 350, diesel 320, 220 and currently 250.
all sports and all great cars, chassis is good enough to throw the car in and out of roundabouts with confidence, agility pack makes a difference but not essential, and larger engines have loads of torque.
my 250 diesel (current car) has been my favourite and best compromise of mpg and performance. it is good for around 7 sec 0 -60, but got 54 mpg from it on a trip to southend last week (cruise control set to 70 on m25 and a127).
good standard spec but a few bits i would look at are panoramic roof and 18 inch amg wheel upgrades(both for looks), parking sensors and command (awesome bit of kit) and of course auto gearbox!!

Merc seem to be doing odd things with their engines.
The C250 CDI is only a four pot 1.8 litres but produces just over 200bhp.
The C350 CDI (replacement for C320CDI) is hardly any more powerful, only a fraction quicker yet is a six pot 220bhp and a lot more expensive.
Also slightly mystified as to why they only upped the power from C320CDI to C350 CDI by so little - any ideas?! I saw an E350CDI being driven very aggressively the other day - at the time I assumed it must have much more power than the fairly pokey 320CDI - when I looked up the figures, I was bemused. What are Mercedes up to?

surly you've had surf -- I was in the west country yesterday (work) and the Cornish (south coast) surf forky look good --- clean with a NW wind holding up the faces
apologies for the thread hijack
Merc's always look very solid, do they still have wheels as an option?
Mattee -- get your head out of the car mags and go surfing

And I have been in almost every day for the last two weeks!!
Typing takes seconds, checking, going surfing takes at least an hour. And it's looking ideal for Monday and Wednesday.
Back to the Merc though - so what's going on with their weird positioning of each model?

I had a new C-class for a couple of weeks & found it dull, uninspiring & a lot lower quality interior than I'd have expected for a car at that price. In fact I'd say that the new Mondeos are better screwed together than the new shape Mercs. Maybe I was unlucky and didn't get a specc'd up model but I was unimpressed to say the least.
