Lol, the one situation where you don't want your car extensively detailed before picking it up

I really like them, I was trying to think of a way I could justify buying one but at about 65k on average for a used one I just cant yet.
Maybe when they hit the 40k mark I might re mortgage a bit.
Top cars IMO.

I bet it's only been through an immigrant "hand wash" and every wheel is kerbed.

Never warmed up or cooled down and ........oh god I'll take it.

The miles will be gen though, they have lots of cars, and little time to drive them.

She will have car valeters around at her house, there is no way she would sit at any handwash, infact the fella who picks up the Peacock feathers and cleans the cattle grid will also polish the cars.

I live close to Coleen Rooney's Mum, when she or Wayne visit they are never ever in the same car.

Ha just came into Other Marques to start a thread about the R8 and saw this

Prior to yesterday I didnt think much of them other than overpriced Audi. However yesterday I joined a mate on a track experience in Oxford. We drove the Aston Vantage V8 and I was pretty disappointed with both the soundtrack and the soft wallowy handling. Im sure I could get around the track quicker in my CTR (seriously).

Anyway they had a promo on with the R8. I wanted to do a couple of laps on my own then get taken around by the pro's but left it too late. So just did the passenger laps and oh my god that thing shifts and sticks to the track. And those 8 pot stoppers on the front are immense. Im not sure whether it was the V8 or V10 as didnt know there were different models til I looked online last night. But it was actually the best sounding car on the track (amongst the vantage, gallardo and a 360).

Interior was great as well and just felt so solid and well built. Germans for you I guess.

Still I wont be affording one any time soon £80k for the V8 new and £100k for the V10. There is a white one at work and saw a black V10 at the cinema last week.

That's probably a consequence of living in Liverpool more than anything else tho....

These R8's have seriously come down in price since the recession took hold! I remember looking at these on Piston heads not long after they'd come out and they were fetching well over list - £120k region. Down to not much over £50k now.

Can i chip in with a bit of negativity?

I see tons around my area and imo they look average and even cheap! And the few that give it any revs it sounds pants.

Much prefer the astons. What a noise!

The V8 is a bit on the slow side too, for its price.

Whilst I couldn't accuse the V10 of being slow, they're only just getting high 11s on the quarter mile though, and you can't sensibly tune them. A GTR is mid 11s as standard, high 10s with minimal mods, a little over half the price, and faster around corners. Of course I'm biased.

Gtr are great cars john , but german cars have quality all over them compare to the Japanese cars , one thing the Gtr has is driver appeal though , as most german car is lagging in this department
also is a different market that the cars are aiming at( cant really see the Audi on a drag strip can you lol ).

I've had a lot of reliability problems with the German cars I've had, but they do have nice interiors and the doors make a nice thunk. But VAG build unreliable cars IMHO.

It is quite common to see RS Audis at the drag strip, not that I frequent such places, but I tune for others that do.

I'd say the R8 looks like a TT, and the GTR looks like a 350Z. The only difference is performance and price, and I think I'd take the Z over the TT as well.

Having electrical failures worth 20% of the value of an unmodified, dealer serviced, low mileage 37 month old VAG car perhaps colours my view?

Dont worry John, your not alone here, most of the broken down new cars I see are normally VW/Audi, and they have never actually been that reliable (people think they are because they are german, total myth, you want reliability then buy japanese).

On track they can quite happily keep up with a ferrari F430. It's not the straight line speed the V8 R8 excels at, it the cornering. I've twice driven the R8 on track (thanks to complimentry Audi R8 days) and they corner soo damn fast it's unreal. There's virtually no body roll at all. The thing just grips.

Bit like the Elise. Won't set the world alight with straight line speed, but how many cars could live with one on a back road?

To say the V8 engined R8 is Slow (even in a straight line) would be only to compare it to a 911 Turbo, F430, Gallardo etc, in the same way a 911 Carrera S is "Slow". The V10 engined R8 changed that (straight line) but the V8 is deamed the better steer.

Obviously the 430 was slowing down to have a look at the poor sod in the R8

Indeed the proof is in the figures...

West Circuit

F430 - 1.21.7

R8 - 1.26.5

Five seconds is a hell of a lot on an 80s lap!!

It is also slower around the 'Ring.

Let's face it - it is a souped up Audi TT.

Assume your talking Bedford West? Diff figures here:

Ferrari F430 vs Audi R8 - FastestLaps.com

F430 1:24.20
R8 V8 1:22.10

Not bad for half the price.

430 Scud vs non-scud I think and at different times the West circuit has had different layouts.

My Ex (from last year) grew up with her. Went to dance classes together. She had her number on her phone. I did get to see it, but wasn't allowed to write it down.

Yes it is slower, but not what you would call miles slower is it.
Remember the V8 R8 is aimed at the 911 Carrera. And as so, doesn't do a bad job when compared to the Ferrari.

The V10 R8 is aimed at the 911 Turbo. But what are the ring times for the 911 Turbo???

911 Turbo - 7:38
F430 SC - 7:39
F430 - 7:55
