Recommend me a car for 6k
Guys,
I am selling the scoob and looking for something else to replace. Just don't know what yet.
Was thinking BMW, and possibly 2.5 - 3L
Or something entirely different I am open to suggestions.
So lets here your thoughts.

What are your motoring requirements/priorities?
Power, speed, handling, practicality, boot, 4 doors, looks, drivetrain set up, etc, etc. I mean, we could recommend a 3.0 luxury 4 door saloon or a two seater sports car for that money...

They handle well and will get out of shape if you lift-off mid-bend/about with the ESP off. However, they are ultimately FWD. I love mines and it's a great every day car that is good for long distance runs, overtaking and a bit of fun. However, it's not thrilling or blisteringly fast like a 'proper' sports car. I plan to add a VX220 turbo, 400bhp EVO or something similar to my flock to scratch that particular itch.

Lol, I don't....which is why I've never bought a TVR despite really, really, really wanting to try one. I just know my luck: spend £10k have ten minutes of fun then face a £5k rebuild or such like.

one of the best looking cars on the road and comes with all the ease of ownership of a Ford
only buy a TVR with money you can afford to throw away

You know it makes sense!!
I'm in exactly the same situation as you, only I have just put my hard earned into a Vectra VXR 280, but hanker after something V8ish!

I was in your boat 2 or 3 years ago but the budget was bigger. However the cars I looked at then would probably by now be roughly around your price.
I bought a 330 coupe, but the big trick I missed was the MOndeo ST220. I didn't know about them. Since then my mate bought one and I have been stunned by how good it is, especially the value for money aspect. The ST220's not quite as well balanced but I'd say the steering is actually a fraction better.
The 330i will do a faster 0-60 but I now know that if I was in a high speed situation and someone wanted a play the ST220 is the one I'd rather be in.
I wouldn't swap my 330i for one now (I'll move on eventually to something properly faster) but we did quite a few comparisons, and we switched drivers a few times while we were at it and the results always came out the same.
Get them side by side in 3rd at 60, and floor it. By 80 the ST has gained almost a car length. Above that the difference snowballs into something significant.
As for a BMW with less than 3 litres, you know you'd regret it. There is a big difference.

A lesser Audi TT coupe can just about be had for that. Up the budget a bit to 7K you could have mine, 2001, 65K miles, 19", 270bhp, quattro, Bose, climate, leather, heated seats. Goes and handles deceptively well. Little or no turbo lag, bags of grunt and torque, and really does handle well, yet reasonably comfortable. Branded a girls car, but in reality a well screwed together car, that looks nice, and does the job nicely as a little sports car.

Clio 182 / Cup / Trophy
CLK55 AMG (one for about 6.5 on pistonheads)
Mini Cooper S
Leon Cupra R 225
Audi S3
BMW 330 (petrol or diesel)
I had a C43 in black. It was on my 'list' of cars to own once in your lifetime. I had it back to back with a 330D and years later, miss the 330D -
The above were on my radar when I bought the scoob for similar money. If you haven't had a beemer before, I'd give it a go.

Must admit I am leaning towards BMW as I have not had one before plus never had RWD either so should be an experience
