Hi All

Was offered a renault 25 the other day, free, as long as i delt with taking it away. Does anyone know anything about these? Would it be worth restoring again?

i dont no anything about them so just trying to find out..enjoy having a tinker with cars etc but never wanna risk messing me with mine unless im sure of what i am doing so thought working on this might be a bit of experiance

Renaults were fine when it was small things falling off them - with the 25 much larger renault parts had to be avoided on the roads

his didn't , dunno it was just very unreliable and maybe because it ruined my trip to scotland when i was 10 as it broke down the morning when i was going, and had to settle for skegness lol

one of my mates had one of those and it burst into flames on the m62 on the way home from a day out when the wiring for the electric fan overloaded! I was behind him when it happened and by the time he'd stopped from 70mph all the inside was full of black smoke, 2 minutes later it was raging inferno.

The fact you were offered it for free should be a clue - the owner couldn't even be bothered taking it to the scrapyard as they would probably charge him to get shot of it.

For the life of me I cant understand why anyone buys french cars - citroen, peugot and renault - all are crap, horrible to drive and designed by blind men - OK, you may just want a runaround, so why not just buy a Ford or Vauxhall ?, that will be nicer, more reliable and not built for export in a factory run by people with a well known hatred of all foreigners !

What an all encompassing stupid view. Most french cars handle and drive better than any vauxhall or ford.

Citroen DS, probably one of the prettiest cars they ever built, iconic classic in pretty much any classic car lovers eyes
Peugeot 205, the GTi versions are still sort after, 25+ years since they were first built
Peugeot 306, also still a very popular car, the GTI-6 and Rallye versions still one of the best pound for pound hot hatches you can get
The list does actually go on, the R25 turbo, 2.1ltrs 170bhp, nothing by todays standards but back then, pretty damn quick for a big car

Scenic, started a revolution in family motoring and a new class of car.

and remember in the 90s a Peugeot Diesel was considered an uber reliable economical mile muncher.

French do small, chic, nimble, fine riding and reliable, rust resitant small cars as a rule, just be afraid when things get complicated or large as it all goes a bit wrong.

Witness the number of 205's and 309's still alive in France, even Renault 5's, base models do very well as there is just a rattly old tappet monster at the front, a squashy seat, massive skinny plastic wheel and minimal electrics.

As for the 25, find the owners club and then tow your car to a meeting for comfort and counselling.

Very comfy and well laden with toys back in the day. Unfortunately the french electrics were their downfall.

Parents had the 2.7 V6 for years, never saw another one but blimey did it waft us around europe on holidays.
