E36 isofix?

E46 isofix?
I love the Isofix in my Mazda 6, easy as pie and also has the top anchoring points.
Now, it may or may not be any safer than a belted child seat but I own an Isofix chair and want to keep it.

My Mrs wants an E46 3 series (99 on) and I cannot establish if they were Isofix compatible, pretty much all the tech reviews say "Isofix child seat preperation" yet the 1st one I went to look at didn't seem to have the little clips resting between the rear bench and seat back.
Does anybody have anything definitive please?
