Ford RS Turbo
Any one know anything about these cars ? A friend of mine is selling one with 34k from new completely standard and its been kept garaged most of its life.
I may make an offer for it but does anyone know what it is worth are they classics yet ? I would ask on the RS owners club but they tend to be a bit over optimistic with prices there about their precious fords.

what you want is the Series 1
the MK2's Series 1 only came on a B or C reg
see below
Ford Escort RS Turbo 84 - 86 S1
but I think you may have the

series 1 -- hand built at Ford's SVO works (or summin)
its akin to comparing a 22b to UK 2000 turbo

i think "fast fords" always sell, and the market for them is huge
the series 2 will never command the same prices as the series 1 -- but if its clean I think you sholud be able to move it on easily

Been looking at one for several months, the S1 is much more desireable, especially unmolested, fetching up to 7k.
I've not seen a mint S2 advertised over 4k and even then it remained unsold (as far as I can tell).
If it's straight, no rot, standard (ish) with genuine mileage it'll probably stand 3k all day long.

Just to clear up any earlier confusions....
The Mark 3 Escort is known as a Series 1 RS Turbo - shown below

The Mark 4 Escort is known as the Series 2 RS Turbo (which the F reg will be, and will be the pre '90-spec' model which had a different front bumper, different boot spoiler and lighter coloured interior)

Hope this helps

Yes, they go for daft money, the have a following but drive one nowadays and you will wonder what all the fuss is, I drove one (S2)years ago and was left a bit nonplussed, didnt seem a whole lot quicker than my MK1 Golf GTI 1.8, a little bit maybe but I was expecting a huge difference, I drove a R5 Turbo and I was expecting it to be like that.
I was however, very taken with the front seats.
Looking at the prices on Pistonheads, I just think, why !, you can get a nice 944 Turbo or some other proper sports car for the price of a lard white Escort with half the power, wrong wheel drive (dont expect Focus RS type grip) and a turbo'ed version of probably the crappiest Ford Engine in living memory. I have a soft spot for them, despite this, just for the fact they were an aspiration from when I was a kid along with Carol Decker from T'Pau and having my hair in a Phil Oakey style flick.

I always wanted one when I passed my test, the insurance companies wouldn't touch me though.
Cant believe the S1 is 25 years old now, anyone see the feature in FastFord?
