I've always liked these. Now that they are hovvering around the 10k mark I'm very, very tempted! I know there are issues with reliability and the image isn't great but they look great! I'm thinking of all the plusses and trying to ignore the negatives. Anyone bought one recently, how much did you pay?
Honest John all but crucifies the car.

Before you buy one, go and speak to your local land rover specialists, and ask them what they think, as i suspect they might be the ones to ask what goes wrong on them..... the local guru around here swears he wouldn't have one if you GAVE it to him.....!!!

Unreliability is a 'characteristic' of all Land Rover products, even this one which has a Peugeot engine. I've been watching prices on these since last May and a 3 year old HSE has lost £7k in that time. The best value are 55 plates at auction as there are loads which come to the end of their lease. An 05 plate is less than £1k cheaper. An 06 on will be much more on road tax.
Current BCA prices on Auctionview are:
05/55 SE Automatic (Leather and sat nav std): £13075 (48k) (new £38282)
Prices are still dropping at more than £300 a month (an acceptable level in my view) so they haven't reached rockbottom yet - perhaps by April?
Lovely engine but not that economical and not much more internal space than an ML (W163) considering it's 10 inches longer. As I need 7 seats and 4wd, there isn't a better option fo £13k really though.

i,ve had the same problem -- need 7 seats sold my RR a couple of years ago and replaced it with a Toyota Landcruiser Amazon -- great car
BTW an AA man I spoke to the other day said that he recovers at least one Disco maybe two every single shift -- and the only car he hasnt recovered is a Landcruiser
Having said that I think the new Disco looks ace

The disco is a dam good buy at the moment and I think the "best buy" of all the LR products.
Probably one of the best offroaders too.. if you are going to use it for that
200tdi version probably the "best" engine but it looks like you are looking for something a lot newer.

if you need seven seats you want a VW T4 or T5 caravelle or multivan.
bomb proof depreciation. I've had a few- fantastic reliable vehicles and a huge obessive camper van crazy VW fanbase to sell to. i.e to convert to campers, surf wagons etc.
there is a reason landrover is owned by tata and gone bankrupt: a rubbish product. ever met a happy freelander owner for example ?
ever looked at a 10 yr old disco and thought, wow that looks rust free and in good condition.
however I do think the latest gen of discos look really cool: but for me its jap/german all the way.
to be honest after maybe 10 plus german cars: prob stay with jap: they're just much much more reliable.

I love them tbh, very practical for kids too.
I had one on loan when I took my folks RR in for a service. It was a new HSE TDV6 auto, I did circa 15 miles all day in it, and it had a suspension fault in that time.
You only live once though, eh?

Right first things first get your ****ing facts right for starters
1 the gen 1 freelander was naff granted but when it was in production we were owned by BMW !! and we all know how great BMW's realibility issues are dont we, Ie the 4.4 v8s that went into the rangrover all BMW units with a fail rate of 1 in every 5 yeah great them germans!!
2 We are not bankrupt in fact far from it we are 1 if not the strongest motor producer in the uk at present. Honda no production till end of feb,Bmw same, Mercedes shutting 12 of its plants for good!! BMW X5/X3 production !!! mmm.
3 ask most AA men why discoverys are being picked up and he will tell you that most are down too IDIOT owners putting petrol in them instead of diesel, thats how refiened these new ones are.
Theres some damn good buys out there at present but price dropping isnt just hitting L/R ,look how cheap you can get X5's,Porsche cayenne,VW toureg's the list goes on .
Were all in the same game mate making a living but one thing we dont produce is crap

well on the basis of knowing lots of landrover, freelander and range rover owners over many years................ I can't think of anyone who has anything good to say about them.
baring - yes a defender is good off road, yes a range rover looks pretty cool.
but in terms of reliability ?
maybe the - is it 4th gen of freelanders- totally new shape are ok...... but friends/colleagues who've had any of the others--- jeez !
I did myself say the new disco looks pretty cool. just don't want a british made product. maybe its my influences from the 70's and the rubbish car industry then !

I think they have one of the better images of those kind of cars, but, remember they weigh 2.7 tonnes and that imposes certain a certain amount of impact on the performance, handling and fuel economy, three tones once fueled and loaded, we considered one but bought a new Galaxy instead (1.7 tonnes), we dont need four wheel drive, nor do most if they are honest, most come with road tyres so arent that useful off road anyway, no matter what clever stuff Land Rover do with Hill Descent and traction control if you try and off road with 50% worn road tyres it isnt going to do it justice.

Yeah, the weight. The Landrover Disco is the heaviest SUV you can buy I believe. 2 Chassis in one car.
You'd get better mpg with a RRS with the TDV6 or TDV8. Whichever engine you were going to go for with the Disco.

My Discovery owning friend keeps telling me how good Land Rover Recovery is.
I'm sure its great but definately not a plus point.
Again,as with most on here,I think they look great, just wouldn't trust one

a 2.7 twin turbo in the x type that would be quicker than ronaldo going into a tunnel wall
the diesel engine, which may i add is one of the best around, is only in the s-typeand xj, the one in the disco is a single turbo if i remember correctly. ive only ever heard good things about the new disco, the old one suffered with reliabilty issues but the ywere sorted for this

they have a off road course at work were they take them round with road tyres on, no problems at all, you go to jap off road days and they put off road tyres on straight away before even climbing a kerb.
facts please people, not hearsay
