My wife had a MG TF 160 when Rover where still going.
had it from new only did 6000 miles in 3 years, and Iv'e got to say the car was RUBBISH. It was falling apart it rattled it self to distruction, the brakes where woefull ride terrible. Even the MG badge on the bonnet had the paint peeling off.
Unless the Chinese have completly remade these cars and have much better quaility control, the MG badge will disapear for ever which will be a shame.
Wife got a MX5 now great car.

Duff panel gaps is the norm on mass-production cars, but by any standards that is bad.
On a brighter note; I fitted my first "uprated" K-series head gasket last week (the fancy multi layer Land Rover item, along with the new stronger lower webbing ).
Bad news was the ****** got airlock and over-heated

Looks are ok (ish), but its built by people who have no concept of quality production, and the original its based on doesnt give me any hope of build quality issues being sorted!
In other words, a big Toni and Guy waste of time and money!

So many things the 500 in the name could mean
500 days it will last before head gasket
500 miles before some thing rattles
£500 pounds - its actual worth
Sure others can can think of some more & probably better ones !

This is still a fairly new car by MG standards. The MGF Launched in 1995, so it's now 14 years old. MG's usual life-cycle is 18 years. MGB: 1962 to 1980; Midget: 1961 to 1979. So we can expect a new car in 2013! At least they haven't fitted monstrous impact-absorbing rubber bumpers and jacked up the ride-height yet like they did to those previous models. They'll probably save that for the final 2011 face-lift!
