As it only has 2seats, it's suddenly in more competitive territory than a 4 seat hot hatch, something that every review I've read seems to forget.

I'm sure it's fast and a great drive but if it were mine , I'd need another car and to be honest, my 2nd car would be RWD and convertible.

Rumour has it, the Megane no longer holds the fastest lap by about 6 seconds.

Nothing official yet though.

...and I'd bet the new holder of the lap record could seat a back seat passenger...

Gotta say, there's been a heated debate on the VW forums about this type of thing. To summarise, they were arguing that the Golf GTI/R32 isn't a hot hatch as it's too heavy still.
This Renault was however lauded as the latest good hot hatch.

The arguement was countered that the Renault, whilst performance-wise is hot, it's too raw for an everyday car. ie it's a track-car (IMHO)

So this brings me on to my point. IMHO, this a track car, not a hot hatch. I, personally don't like the Renault nor its styling. It's trying to be a Porsche RS - which of course, it can only dream of!! LOL!!!

Lot of money for a too specific a use of car IMHO.

IMO we should all thank Renault for their tradition of building these extreme enthusiast-orientated cars during the past 30-odd years. Not many mainstream manufacturers have had the ***** to follow suit.

However, my problem with this particular one is that the much prettier new-shape Megane Coupe is now on the market. So why would anyone want to pay top dollar for an obsolete and ugly 2002 bodyshape?

Just my 2 Eurocents worth, of course.

I like it alot. How often do we see cars this wild on sale now?

Powerful, stripped, caged, wild colours/stickers that don't always match, but look fun at the same time, and radical styling. Sounds like a good formula to me

£27,095 for Renault Megane

or £27,995 for a 996 911 Turbo

Umm, difficult one to make. I agree with Scoobydoo, the R26 isn't a hot hatch, its a dedicated track car.

LOL! When I was convinced (well almost) that my Golf R32 (mk4) was the best car in the World, I used to get very narked at people with mk2 Gti saying they could thrash it. But look at the VW Cup - all the cars that win are older light models. The R32 just can't hide it's weight.
A stripped out sub 1200kg R32 would be amazing - but tricky to shave 300kg from it.

Quite like the fast Meganes but that's both a rip off and a visual disaster.

996 Turbo for me too please...

Not that hard to pick when you see the service costs on a 911 turbo compared to a Megane

My uncle has a 996 and I can't fit in the thing even with the seat fully back, unless I press the pedals down so it would be an easy choice for me if I could only choose from those two. I would still have an RS though.

£24k here:

Renaultsport Megane R26-R | evo News | News | evo

Call yourself petrolheads, what is there not to like?! It'll give the RS a run for it's money for sure even though it's circa £6k cheaper ...
