Xsara VTR
Hi,
I know someone who is selling their Xsara VTR, I was wondering if anyone ownes or has owned one & what they thought of it. It is meant to have the same engine as the Pug 306 GTI.
cheers

The VTR doesn't have the same engine no, its the Xsara VTS which uses the 167bhp 306 GTI-6 lump, albeit with a 5 speed rather than a 6 speed.
Xsara VTR is a 306 XSi essentially, I'd have the pug!

The VTR comes in 2 flavours, either a 1.6 8 valve or a 1.8 16 valve The VTS comes with the Peugeot engine the same as the GTI6 but it comes with a 5 speed box which is said to be better suited.
My sister has the 1.6 8 valve VTR and although it's underpowered it's a well built nice car

Thanks for the info, I wasn't sure if it was the VTR or the VTS which had the Pug 306 GTI engine. I don't know why but I've always quite liked the Xsara although I'm not a huge fan of French cars except for the 205 gti. It seems from most of the replies that it's a decent enough car so I might keep a look out for a VTS.
What is the engine size is it a 1.8 16 valve or 2L 16 valve?
Is there a 5 door version?
Cheers

AFAIK it was 1.8 then went to a 2.0 but not sure when.
It's not a bad car really - underrated so very cheap, pretty nippy (8 secs to 60) and handles well. if you can find one that won't fall to bits, it should be a bit of a steal.
Don't think it was made in 5 door.

Your better off with a pug tbh, ok they are sister companies but for some reason peugeot always seem to have the edge over citroen
And the 6 speed box is better suited to the GTI-6 engine, it keeps it on the boil better
(oh and i have a 98 R 306 GTI for sale if your interested? )

Seems to be a fairly average glitch on some Citroen
did have to have indicator stalk replace on mine - wasnt a fortune tho
oh and all the instrument panel went off once across town ,even tho the car performed fine, fortunatley this never happened again tho .
Only actually replaced the consumables ie starter motor ( after much provocation on my part) and discs ( ****e to start with im afraid),pads in the whole 5 yhears i had it
Oh and dont pull too hard on the dood handles - mine came off in my hand and the door cards arnt really designed for a lot of taking off / putting on
