Cool 997 Mk II GT3

Is being unveiled in March.

435bhp
0-60 4.2
0-99 8.2

I am drooling as I type - it looks absolutely gorgeous too

Start saving Porsche fans!

Does anyone know why GT3 engines sound different to other porsches. One went past me at speed recently (think it was a mk 1). Sounded really purposeful and much louder than other 911s.
I was immediately hooked.

GT3 use the race derived block for the Porsche Cup race series. Not sure if they use a flat plane crank like Ferrari's do (which is what gives Ferrari's their unique noise). But I would hazard a guess at more aggressive cams and a different exhaust system producing the unique noise.

I was once saw a 997 GT3 in white with white wheels and the Carbon Brakes. I did a sex wee on the spot. It was pure automotive ****.

You mean, compared to most Subarus it actually starts to accelerate harder.

Like the Yellowbird at TOTB a few years ago - 12.5s quarter - ordinary, 189mph top speed extraordinary!!

Drove a 996 GT3 today - that engine is awesome

If it's coming out in March would that not make it a mk iii ?

Wot's the 0-100 time of the 996 GT3?

Nat is half correct

The published time of a 996 GT3 Mk II was 8.8s from memory - the fastest any of the magazines got was 9.2s. Still faster than the lardy turbo

Aha..... but what about the Turbo S / X50?

Bearing in mind a Turbo weighs about 190kg more than a GT3, I reckon a 996 x50 would just about be bang on with the newGT3?

In EVO mag 'The Knowledge' they managed 10.3s -100mph for the GT3 and 10.0s for the Turbo.
Not bad for a lardy 190kgs more!
Anyway - .3 of a second

I did read somewhere, ages ago, that 0-100kph for the X50 was 3.7 secs. Can't find any figures for 0-100 mph, though.

There's a report on the new GT3 in this months GT Porsche mag along with a very interesting article about the 996 GT3 as it's its 10th anniversary.

The more I read about them the more I think I want one!

Now this would be the 'Daddy'.

Is Porsche Planning a GT2 RS?

The GT3 uses the same block as the GT1, which is based on the 962 engine. I.e serious race engine. Its dry sump and in some cases has been increased in capacity to 4000cc, giving c.450bhp...

We are clearly reading a different copy of evo.

GT3 Mk II tested in Edition 66 got a 0-60 in 4.3 and a 0-100 in 9.2.

The 996 Turbo is 0-60 in 4.1 (benefit of 4WD) and 0-100 in 10s. That's quite a bit slower due to being more lardy

The GT3 is 286 per ton and the Turbo 272, Turbo S is 296

I had a long drive (very generous owner ) in a 997 GT3 last year.
Best car I've ever driven.

The MkII appears to be even better.

Hi all here's my experience of the mark 1 gt3.
After being at the ring on and off for the past 5 years or so i had the chance for a pax lap on a trackday last year, after going out in various scoobs m3,s type r civics,i can honestly say it was the quickest car i have been in so far, point to point with a good driver, it had evertyhing power the grip and the fkkkkkkkk brakes
Just amazing one of my best moments...

Just my thoughts.

I had 4 laps round the Nordschleife in a GT3RS last year on a trackday, it's not very often a car lives up to my expectations, the GT3RS not only lived up to but exceeded them. No surprise it's the weapon of choice in the car park.

The first 'supercar' i went out in was the mk1 GT3 and i was hooked within about five seconds. At the time it was new and i just loved the hardcoreness (if thats a word?!) of it with the half cage, harnesses etc.

I've loved Porsche's and more importantly the GT3's ever since
