Unhappy help my sons clio is broken!

My sons car has more probs now, the battery went in his key fob today, and by the time i got to him got him to halfords for a new one, then back to where his car was, the imobilizer had stopped working, so no central locking would work and car would tick over but wont start!

Called renault in MK and they quoted £85 to sort it but cant do anything til end of Jan! so called Northampton, they will charge £45 to try and unlock the code for the imobilizer to work again, but may then have to charge the £85 that Mk quoted, if what they want to do doesnt work!

Bl00dy nightmare!!!! I hate renaults!!! (clios)

If anyone knows anythng please help!! like is there people you can call out machanics etc that can diagnose these problems ...

many thanks mrs Bubbles! xx

I concur, but just checking it wasn't just a faulty alarm/immobiliser. I had the same on an old BMW, but managed to bump it back to life

Hi, what year and engine is it please? I will have a look,

edited to ask,
when u replaced the battery the transponder chip didnt fall out did it?
On some cars there is a small chip inside the key(looks like a bit of plastic)

Right when we got this car the batt was buggered, so got new one, worked ok then it went for service, and im sure they replaced the cambbelt, just been reading a post about clios and loads of people are seeming to have same probs, tries to turn /tick over but wont start! not sure about any bits of plstic falling out when battery was changed!

Its a 51 plate 1.2 i think! smallest size engine! but since the battery and servic was done it has been having probs! the daft young sod revs the hell out of it also when trying to start it, and also had a massive amp and speaker thing in his boot which he has now removed as the other half told him that was draining the battery (obviouldy not the case as the car is still not working!

should i try turning it around and bumping it?

JUST WANT IT TO WORK!! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

any idea what to do now then if bits of plastic are gone from fobs? been out there and deactivated the immobilizer which i read on a site ......................

Hold down the Central locking button on the centre-console and depress the throttle, keeop the throttle down until you hear the central locking reset (sounds like lokck and unlock). Release the button then release the throttle. Re-press the throttle to complete. That switches the immobiliser off and if you have a red flashing lamp in the centre console it won;t be flasing if successful.

.............. done this car is still trying to start but wont!!

Spare keys?

That chip is whats needed for the car to run

I think you need a working key (i.e one with a chip) to deactivate the immobilser - otherwise it would make it pretty pointless.

The key has three parts: the key itself (obviously), the remote+battery (to lock the door) and the immobilser chip (the chip doesn't need a battery - works like those security tags on expensive clothes): without the latter, the key is useless.

(btw stop saying tick-over...that word is used to describe that the engine is idling! You mean turn-over )

Both orginal factory keys will have a chip built in and will start the car.

Don't know what else you can do from that point, barring taking the car to a garage that can supply and program Renault keys. I am presuming its the key at fault here. But there maybe a problem with the immobiliser itself.

If you have thrown the transponder chip, and don't have another, it will cost you more than 85 quid.

There are two types of transponder, one is a glass one and looks like a drugs capsule, the other is a bit like a door stop.

right just spoke with the other half and he had actually saved the bits of plastic on the fob that he had opened and they were on the computor desk right by me! duh! anyway as even he said they arent any 'chip' they look like lil bits of broken bits that have come away having tried to open the fob! you can see where they have broke off!
