It's Blue and Green, basically Obscene.....
This is my kids present from their doting uncle, to be used on their grandads land to learn to drive, hopefully not putting them off for life in the process....
Having had two before due to relative poverty, I am looking forward to killing it, 56 throbbing diesel HP

I know, Its an "Over", how very appropriate, its going to die, again and again, I am going to vist upon it with furious anger in a Pulp Fiction stylee, the ownership of a Montego that had its gearbox let go, an 800 that had its engine go, a 200 BRM with headgasket that went, a Metro GTI that was a hateful (though silly quick) turd of a car, I am going to take this out on Mr Metro, Muhahahahahahahahahha
That said the 200 coupe 1.6 I had was well behaved as was the 1.0 Clubman Metro I bought for 100 quid, ran for a year and sold for 400 quid !

The Clubman was actually a fairly reliable little car, didnt go wrong once, battered it, hammered it, set it on fire welding a small patch for the MOT, sold it for more than I bought it for, epic fun in the Snow, short body and a very effective handbrake.
The GTI , on other hand was a horror, rusty, manky, leaky and the engine was too powerful for the chassis, especially due to the interesting angle of the radius arms at the back until I replaced them, I hated it with a passion, I tried to kill the engine, I am the only person to want to kill a K series and not be able to.

It was delivered today to our private testing facility for a shakedown (accent on shake there) run, it actually runs quite well but even with only 56 horsepower, grip isnt that great using bald 135 section tyres on frosty grass, a top speed of 20 mph was going to be going on with as frankly anything fast got quite scary, eldest has mastered clutch control quite well and all three lads loved it, despite attending quite nice fee paying schools they were soon charging round baying like a load of feral Chav's in a 1990's joyriding documentary. Nobody has ever been so happy to receive a Metro as my three boys, its a Jackson genetic defect, hopefully when this has had enough it may be able to be replaced with something bigger and RWD to really chew the field up.
It is going to get "pimped", according to the youngest, I think that means scraping the worst of the Moss off.
Remember, and this is quite serious, some poor sod has driven this car 120,000 miles, that is being sat in it for 120,000 miles, imagine the despair ? that said it has managed to do that distance, which isnt bad for a rather cakky piece of British engineering (albeit with a French engine)
I had to explain this to my grandad, he was having difficulty coming to terms with the whole idea as he still rates them highly and drives a petrol model daily which is still cherished, so its all a bit sacriligous to him but he has got his eye on various spares, obviously the sought after rad to hose goes to 500 but its still got plenty of life left in it, having a dad who is an ex diesel fitter, mechanic and Rover fettishist will hopefully keep it going for a whilel yet.

I can remember my first car. It was a mk3 powder blue 1.6 gl escort i was 14 & i killed th ****** round my dads old farm, needless to say i managed to do it in & got a mk3 xr3i with warrior kit & teardrops
after that & i rolled it when i hit a ditch in the field.
Them was the days

I use to have a Metro Rio Grande as my 2nd car I ever owned. Was a 1.1 K series though. It was a complete turd and the Rio Grande was embarrassingly voted "homosexual car of the year" by Radio 1 whilst I was out driving it. I did once get 105mph out of it on the flat though!
The 1.1 was actually quite a perky, the 1.4 8 valve was as much engine as it needed and could cope with, the 1.4 GTI K series with its throbbing 104 bhp was a bit much for the chassis, especially as they got older and the radius arms wore and the hydrogas leaked and screwed the geometary, they then became apt to swap direction in a most alarming manner.
Some Mad buggers put the 1.8 VVC in these !

From: Swansea. In search of more power!!
Spent half the day at the in laws, the kids cleaned it, mainly so we could see out, I a gave it a once over and then we spent 2 hours barreling up and down the field, the two eldest can do excellent handbrake turns now. It started getting a bit hot but I think that was down to it ingesting hay into the air intake at the front, removing it helped and cut down on the smell of hot oil and coolant. Have to say the ride on Metro's was actually pretty good, more comfy in a field than my Saab is on the road with its daft sports suspension.
So, out of all the kids Christmas presents this is the one they have enjoyed the most, they are deciding on paint schemes for it next !

I'll build another when I get that rad and top hose off you

143 VVC, PG1 gearbox, 220 turbo ratios and LSD, individualised and lowered running 600/500psi (std 300 +/- 50psi) polybushed, mintex 1177 pads & more
still, got 1500 for it
£1500 isnt bad for that kind of performance, I had a 200 BRM and it was quite quick, so in a flyweight Metro it must be mental.
What a great thread and a great present to your lads. They will remember this car for the rest of their lives and in about 20 years time will be on an Intergalacticweb (for we shall be comunicating with other planets by then
) telling beings like us how great their Metro was in that field all those years ago.

Can someone please explain to me why I want that so badly?
Because it'll do 40 mpg and isn't far off a scoob, performance wise
Because it's tastefully modified by me and I have 'the eye'
Because it's one of those naughty things that you know you shouldn't like but do
Pics are clicky
Thanks for the compliment Rev
