Default Experience of 5 series diesels.....

HI all, considering getting a 5 series beemer estate, either 2.5tds or maybe a 3litre diesel if i can stretch to one.....
Anyone had any experiences of 5 series of type...... they look quite nice to me, esp if they have slightly bigger wheels than standard...LOL!!

Your thoughts would be appreciated...!!
Thanks.

It's a car that does everything you need in one....just don't go off-road.

Driven a few 3 litres now and still amaze me. Awesome torque and SILKY smooth auto transmission. Genuine quality sleeper.

I'd have one in an instant if i could afford one.

Which one do you mean? The old one is very good. The new one is better in some ways, but worse in others (ride being one).

I have an e39 530d Touring Sport - 2003 with everything except Nav and Electric seats.

We have had it for the last 44k miles and it is excellent. As I have said many times if I was stuck with only one car and had to choose - this would be it. Brilliant to drive, quick (the new ones are even quicker) and not that expensive to run. Certainly not given the BMW reputation.

Servicing costs to date have been very reasonable and our dealer has always been very helpful. Only a couple of really small things have gone wrong to date (washer bottle). BMW Business volume control is a bit scratchy. I also buckled one of those huge M sport alloys. Too easy with massive offset and a lot of weight at the front.

Car has sailed through it's MOTs and services with only standard service items to sort. Even the tyres can be sourced for a decent price but make sure they are inflated just right otherwise they wear badly.

A friend of mine did over 100k in three years in a 530d saloon and her experience was the same as mine. Very, very good.

I am looking at buying a new shape 530/535d Touring Sport at the moment. We had one for a week and monster torque is very seductive.

Finally they can be mapped for a lot more power and torque however this can weaken injectors which are very expensive to replace.

Thanks for all the replies guys, not really looking for huge performance, but if it's there thats a bonus..!!

Wanting a comfy car really, and has to be practical, hence the estate option...... trouble is, it's hard to find one thats NOT been to the moon already...!!

Keep lookin....

We will be selling ours if you are interested. 68k when I last looked. Fully main dealer serviced (it was supplied new with a three year service and maintenance package) and we have owned it since it was 18months old. Two new alloys, fresh rubber all around. New MOT.

If you are interested let me know.
