Jaguar XJ-S V12 H.E just about manages 60mph in 1st.
3 gears (auto), 1:1 top gear, and a 2.88:1 diff ratio kind of limits it somewhat. LOL
120mph in 2nd gear too
Edit: Sad, but on paper I just calaculated it as a theoretical 70mph, but I know the gearbox force shifts just before that, even with the shifter locked into "1" (indicated 65mph).

Code:
Max revs= 6500rpm, 1st gear= 2.48:1, diff= 2.88:1, Tyre rolling diameter= 26.1 inches, circumferance=82inches Equals ((6500/2.48)/2.88)*82 = 6218.73 feet/min = 1.178 miles/min = 70.68MPH

I just wondering about any other cars out there like my old 78 corvette, its got a 3 speed auto, tall diff and 6.3L 500bhp custom built engine, I noticed Im getting well above 60 in 1st gear, I did the calcs on it and works out like this -
1st - 80mph
2nd - 132mph
3rd - 200mph(might need more power for this speed tho!)
Im thinking about fitting a shorter diff, to improve acceration, but that might lead to more wheel spin, plus im getting ready to fit a pro charger( engine has been built for supercharging), so this will mean more wheel spin!
thanks

The new Corvettes have really long gearing, Z06, ZR1 do over 60mph in 1st and they still have 5 more gears to use (not like the 3 and 4 speeders above).
With lots of torque from the engine they can run long gearing.
Bikes get the high in-gear speeds because of the revs they can run at, an R1 or similar can do over 100mph in 1st.

Lamborghini Countach QV. At its launch it was a car magazine party trick to hit 60mph in 1st gear. This was revving it into the red zone though, so not something you should try too often. I thinked they usually timed about 4.8 seconds, which was considered ultra fast back then. Don't know what this would have risen to with a gear change though.
