Maserati - anyone had one ?
Anyone had either a 4200, Gransport or a Quattroporte ?
Are they reliable, any know issues, good buy or avoid like the plague ?
Person I work with is looking to replace his Jag XKR (not current model) with a DB7 and I reckon either of the above will be better than the DB7.

I was told all the running gear etc for the DB7 was taken from the XKR anyway?
If this is the case he'll be running the same car with a different body on then? No point in changing IMHO.

Always thought it was the DB7 was based on the XJ-S platform ? Chassis is certainly an evolution of the XJ-S !

2nd hand QP's are still quite pricey, whereas 2nd hand 4200's can be picked up for 20K -23K or so. Even the 2 seat Spyder model. I'd have one over an old DB7 anyday. The XJ-S platform is prehistoric. Roadholding was never great on the early DB7's: the nearest I ever came to meeting my maker was as a passenger in a standard DB7; it simply failed to go round a bend at the sort of speed the driver and I expected it to. We ended up on its side in a ditch. OK for cruising the motorways like an XJ-S, but not for enjoying the back roads.

Slightly off topic, a few years ago I was working on the gate at RAF Portreath doing admittance for a Run What You Brung (mostly bikes). A guy pulls up in a Maserati 4200 and attempts, as everyone did, to blag his way in by virtue of his nice car. The conversation went something like this-
Me "That'll be £15 please if you are doing the strip"
Him "No, I spoke to *whoever* and I have been given free runs all day!"
Me "Ive not heard anything about it"
Him "Dont you know this is the only Maserati in Cornwall?
Me "Interesting sir, as there is another one waiting to do the quarter mile, as we speak!"
He hastily got out his wallet, handed me £15 begrudgingly, mumbled something about the legality of my parentage and tried to speed away, nearly stalling in the process!
Happy days.

Very nice cars IMHO, the 3200 is a bit old now but a nice Gransport or 4200... mmm.
Although Maser use the Ferrari link quite a lot the actual Fezza DNA is limited.
The 4200 and GS block are "similar" to the Ferrari V8 but thats about it. They really are different engines. However, that said I would still have one.
If the Gransport drops below 30k by xmas I may well have one.
The clutch thing is the same as the 360, you get 15k miles out one, less if you are harsh.

Early Gransports are holding their value astoundingly well at the mo, they've dropped little this year when compared to other "high end" models. Was mid to high 30s start of the year and still low to mid now despite everything going on.
New M5s starting to break 30 now and while a different beast altogether, definitely something to add to the mix if looking at that bracket.

Won't get a Gran Turismo for much less than 60 at the mo unfortunately. It's surprisingly bigger than than the 3200/4200/Gransport as well.
I would love a Gransport in black/black with red accents or blue/cream

I want a Maserati Mistral Spider but I'd be looking at £175k
My (unfairly prejudiced) mind says italian cars are stunners but I just wouldn't risk it.Mind you,I feel the same about jags.
Doesn't that Jodie Kidd race them and really rate them?
