Default Quick VW Audio help

Bought a Golf GT Sport a couple weeks ago. Car came with a Ipod docking port in the front arm rest. Bought a Ipod Classic at the weekend. Spent the last couple of nights loading up Cd's onto it.

Put it in the car this morning, the Ipod's power came on, but no sound through the stereo. Can't get it to read the Ipod.

Can anyone help?

Pressed the CD button a few times, but to no avail.

How do you get the Ipod to work through the stereo system?

No it doesn't. It's a brand new 120bg Classic though.

How do you get software updates. Totally new to Ipods, so am a little naive

Having a little problem with IPOD connectors at the Moment, before going any futher drop into VW to have quick look as the control box for the IPod is on the underside of that Bin it goes into, so doesn't take too long to Diagnose.
