Why was the Supra discontinued, and more importantly why was it never produced as AWD?

Where might be good places to get one, either new import or 2nd hand import.
Is the new one the MKiv with 326bhp?

Supra was discontinued in the UK in 1996 due to stricter emission regulations. The car is available in Japan in 2 guises: - normally aspirated non turbo version with about 220 bhp, or the twin turbo vesion as a 6 spd manual, auto or tiptronic with 280 (cough ) bhp. As with many jap cars, the claimed bhp is lower due to the official output laws in Japan. Lets just say the UK car had 326 bhp.

Stock performance is 0-60 in under 5 seconds, and as with the Skyline, the car is so over-engineered the the stock internals can take a lot of tuning.

To drive the car is a big heavy car, more suited to A road blasts over country back roads, nevertheless, the car is extremely rigid and well weighted and handles very well. The grip in the dry is excellent, but due to the 'hewn from a lump of granite' feel of the car, you feel somewhat detached from the driving experience.

I had a 6 spd VVTI for a few months and liked it a lot, I took it around Wales for a week on a driving holiday and it coped very well, just go easy in the rain..

As for sourcing one, the best place in the UK for Supras is the Japanese Import Centre in Surrey who specialise in Supras and always have a lrge stock. Speak to Tim Miller and he should be able to sort you out. Their website is:-

Good luck,

MS

Angry

I think the supra is discontiuned now or just about to be... Certainly it won't pass the new jap emissions due any time now

Same thing is killing the skyline gtr and rx7.

Free T,

I wanted something a little more practical, so I went for an Evo VI

I have a P1 now, but I'm getting itchy feet again..

The Supra was actualy at its end of production december 2001 and the final cars where all build to order and they made TT NA Autos 6SPD, and Tip, They weigh in at 1480KGS with the TT being the lighter, when you consider that the Scooby is around 1300KGS and something like a primera is about 1450KGS it makes the Supra relitivly light and with near 50/50 weight distribution and the posibility to run 650bhp without any mods to the bottom end you have to agree that it is a stonking car, the build quality is one of the best you will see from a jap car being basicly a lexus, and you can pick them up on a 93 for a bit over 10K if you want a nice one.

PS. If you are looing to buy one you should look at JIC Ltd

http://www.japanese-car-imports.co.uk/

They are not the cheapest but they will sell you a good car and look after you. Pease of mind is very important when you are buying a car like a Supra.

A high majority of cars owned my UKSupra members have hads Supe's from them including myself and I've owned 3.
