Yep got to agree with it been a Honda. I worked for them a few years back and had a Civic Vti which was awesome for a 1.6, then I had ITR which was even better.....the ride was a lot bumpier, but was worth it. I also had a 350bhp Cossy at the time and these both out handled the old Ford....

I'd definitely vote for the Fiat Strada Abarth 130TC. Driven the Integra too but the Fiat is amazing, so much grunt and excellent handling. There was an article about 2 years ago where they put a 205 Gti,a Clio Williams and Strada Abarth on the track. The writer of the article admitted he expected nothing of the Fiat and was amazed when he drew the conclusion that the Fiat was the best to drive. It was also the quickest around the track by some margin too !

Fiat Strada was a truly awful rusting heap of a 1970's hatchback.
The Arbarth version however was a cracker. (This was when Arbarth was a tuning outfit rather than the name of a Fiat body kit )

Was thought by many to be *the* hot hatch of the 70's and early 80's, but IMO not a patch on the Mk1 Golf GTI for handling and the Lotus Sunbeam for hooliganism.

You won't really see any around now as they all rusted away within about 45 minutes of being delivered

FWD cars - the ITR takes some beating. Others than are almost on a par and better in some areas are the Alfa 156 for FWD steering feedback and balance and the new MINI Cooper for sheer chuckability

I've driven the Golf MK1 and Mk 11 and yes they were good but the Strada is in a differnet league. Can't argue about the rust although series 2 cars were much better. Main thing was with only 705 coming into the UK finding someone who knew anything about them was near impossible.

Do you think they were always orange to hide the rust?
Remeber the Mirafiori Abarth or TC about the same time - I wanted one of them!

Father Jack you are thinking of the Super Miafiori or 131 Sport. Yes these rusted to buggery and where pretty mediocre really. Not that quick at all and just a single carb rather than the twin 40 Solex caarbs on the Strada.

Yeah the Strada was called Ritmo in most other countries.

130bhp 0-60 in 7.7 seconds. and instant throttle response and huge mid range grunt thanks to the big vale head and big carbs. If you stuck twin 45s on and went with a gas flowed head and mild cams 160bhp was easilly on the cards and it flew !

ITR...........superb allrounder; what a noise !

Modded Golfs..current Mk1 is `almost` bombproof.

Strange but I get more overall satisfaction from blasting the FWD than the AWD !

Cheers

my mums 3 pot 1L corsa on a huge snow covered carpark and empty industrial estates

not the last word in feedback but with skinny tyres and enough power to break traction in 3 gear + liberial use of the handbrake it was a hoot!! reverse flicks, powerslides the lot!

Corrado VR6, with mungo. Fantastic car, didn't feel fwd, amazingly considering 2.9 VR6 engine powering the wheels.

Steering fluent and uncorrupted, handling adjustable yet secure at the limit... no finer automobile IMO.

Mind, I've not tried a fwd Lotus Elan...

Corrado VR6 definitely. They're so good, I own one.

My mate has a 260bhp Impreza import and he couldn't leave me on the 'autobahns' (i.e. above 80mph). He was a well gutted too!!

Yep,

Not having driven the ITR or in fact the Corrado VR6, I would say the best handeling FWD car i have ever driven is the RS Turbo.

My VR6 Golf still kicks it's *** in all but the most twisty bit's my mate's one anyrate !!

The Golf Vr6 is still very underated by the car world in general, but in the right pair of hands it's alot of fun !!

Catch you all soon,

How about the JDM CTR

185 BHP standard from a 1.6

Never been caught through the corners on track, except by monster power cars.

Sweeeeet handling.

Ah - I think modded cars are a bit unfair in this vote - sure you can tune the nuts off anything beating most standard cars, but the Escort is pretty old technology IMfeckinHO

The votes so far seem to be:

1. ITR
2. Mini
3. Corrado VR6

Anyone consider a Rover 220 turbo, or even the 620ti. Both rather nippy and underated
