Smart Car engine help
Guy's
I have a friend who has one of the original Lhd smart cars (V) plate 1999/2000 I think.
She has been quoted many £1000's of pounds to have her engine sorted, apparently it needs a new one as one of the cylinders is down....or so she has been told.
My friend (female) is Warwickshire based so to a degree she'll be told anything...as they do...and that's nothing to do with her location...
So can anyone tell me if there are any cheaper alternatives around the area or in the UK that can offer her a cheaper option than Mercedes have......she's been advised that it needs a replacement engine.
Any help would be appreciated
Cheers Lad's & Lasse's

There are loads of Smart specialists out there, they will all be cheaper than Mercedes for a new engine.
Engine failure is quite common on the 599cc Smarts, the newer 698cc cars appear to be a little better.
Try www.smartmaniacs.co.uk for more information.
Wellsmart are located in Wells, Somerset and I use them for my wife`s car. It may be worth her ringing them up and getting a quote, it may still be cheaper even when transport costs are taken into account.

The diff has a built in reverse mechanism
(I looked into it ages ago; Just incase a dead Smart comes along at the right price - would rather do it to a roadster though )

First point - if it would cost £000s to repair then its not going to be economical to repair.
I've not used this lot, but they've been around for a while and so must know what they're talking about. Can't be too far away from her

Maybe worth a look around here as well

Engine Room. 01698 260600. Ask for Robert or Montrose.
The can usually place there hands on anything, would be a supply only basis though due to location.
Thanks
