Default Mini's - The Original ones

Ok, the missus is doing my head in now, she has changed her mind on the Fiat 850, the 500's are either too expensive or crap so another rethink. I have suggested a Mini in the past but its been rejected but it seems you can get a nice one for a lot less money than a nice 500, nearly as cute and not nearly as toothless, will actually keep up with modern traffic.

So, how much would we need to pay for a nice Cooper with the big arches, the late nineties type, ok we will have to pay road tax but I don't care anymore and for me it would be a lot more fun than a 20 bhp 2 cylinder Fiat.

Any opinions (about the car, not my wifes decision making skills)

Minis are lovely but sooooo much trouble, I still hanker after an original one despite once having been an owner Make sure if she gets one that you buy her the Haynes Manual and a toolkit as she'll spend most evenings and weekends mending it

Scoobychick, "She" would not be repairing it ! to give her some credit she did change her Coil once (fnarr fnarr) on her last 500 and I think a doorhandle but be under no illusions it will be me doing the spannering, which I dont mind as I am quite useful with mechinics, the old A series I am well aquainted with, I can weld, paint to a reasonable standard so its not an issue, especially if we dont need it for work.

Still, I thought I would be excited about getting another motor but I am sick to the **** of her keeping changing her mind, she changes the car, the budget and whether she wants to bother, just buy one and get on with it, she is too indecisive.

I found this little poppet on Pistonheads. If I was in the market for a Mini I'd go and look at it, it's a cutie

Look, now you've started me off again on the Mini thing

I'd be looking at a 1275gt if I was in the market for a Mini for this kind of money.
