Cool Opinions please, Fancy a change

Been looking at Porsche!!. Sorry Scoobynet.

Hate the new STI, it is vile, RB to much like the one I have.

I think Porsche are pretty ugly too, but, looking at value for money here.

996 only with OPC (Porsche) Warranty as engine can be fragile. Unless your going for Turbo or GT3 which is different engine & stronger.

If you go over to the Pistonheads forum and do a search on '996 problems', it'll give you some food for thought.

Funnily enough, I've been debating about a 996 C4S. Ordered a Scirocco, but my other idea was buy a shed for work & back and buy a 996 C4S for the weekends.

Been looking around and prices are in the region of £38k+. 911 Virgin have a lovely Silver one in stock. The only reason I've ruled it out this time round is the possible expence. It was a £70k sportscar new afterall, so servicing, parts extra will reflect that.

I'd only buy one with Porsche warranty and would have to renew that every year. Insurance isn't much of an issue. Been quoted approx £580 based on 6000 miles a year.

Brake pads, discs, tyres extra will be a huge expence.

As much as I'd love one, I think i'll give it a few more years, save a bit of money and by then 997 prices may be withi reach.

Am honestly not sure what to do, hence the request for opinions. The WR1 is going to be a hard car to replace

My dad has recently sold his 3.4 996. This is the engine people are suggesting is weak. After 6 years of ownership been looked after by the Porsche dealer - it passed an inspection no problem. I think issues are hit and miss.

I would get in touch with 911 virgin, have a chat and pay good money for a car and get a good one.

porsche sales. used porsche for sale uk. Porsche 911. Porsche Boxster. Porsche 944. Porsche 928.

Nice car:

TBH Lesley your criteria as we discussed on the phone are as follows

4 wheel drive (cos you are a girl and need all the help you can get in slightly damp conditions )

the oomph and get up up and go that matches or excels the scoob

in your budget

As far as I see it, the only one that matches the criteria is an Audi RS, around 5-6 years old.

I wouldnt go down the Porsche road unless you want one that bends you over and gives you and your purse a good seeing to, because the cost, running and resale value will hurt just as much as the scoob.
Friend of mine had an older Porsche and by the time he came to sell it, it had nearly cost him the same as the original purchase price in repairs, running costs and it looked like a new car in the end.

Great for a project car but not as anything else.

Just my 2 pennies worth

I love mine, go for a C4S or Turbo. I saw a nice 996 turbo on pistonheads for 35k they have lost a lot of money over the last year.

So which one have you got? C4S?

Can you give us an idea of running costs then? Please state how many miles you cover per year, where you get it serviced, cost etc. Also include consumables, tyres, pads etc.

This will give us considering buying one a real idea. Thought about having a drive to a dealer, but they may play down expence to get a sale.

Loads of negative feed back from people at work. Seems they all agree with Chris's comments.

I have a 2002 996TT, I posted up a few photos when I got it a few months ago. It only 3200 miles on the clock and I have done 3000 miles since I got it so can't really comment on running costs. I totally love it, the M5 and scooby only get used for shopping now ;D .

Now that's a Porsche!

To the OP, why sell the WR1? You have the only Impreza designed for girls and you seem happy with it.

I am, but being self employed, cars have a limited shelf life for me, plus I get bored easily
