Why does no body want my car!? I have had no interest what so ever!

It is competitively priced, has all the choice options etc.

Do you think the high performance car market is dead? With the price of fuel these days is that putting people off a gas guzzler?

I'll probably guess it's the price of fuel. An RS6 especially one pumping out 505BHP is going to be rather thirsty.

Insurance could be quite costly too.

Now if it was a Twin Turbo TDI, I bet you'd sell it in no time.

Also, for me at least. As much as I respect the RS6 and the way it goes, it's just not special. It's a big heavy thirsty car. Won't be the best handling car either.

For £25k you have a whole lot of performance cars to choose from. OK, maybe not as brutily fast in a straight line, but much more fun when not going straight.

If a dealer is offering you £21k then take it. Or put it at £23/24k and reduce it until people get interested.

The only price to sell at, at the moment is trade. Can you afford to put it away and get a family hatch that is nice and cheap to buy/run safe enough for the family etc?

I would buy it if you'd swap it for an Evo IX FQ340 with mods + cash your way, but I'm in Scotland and you don't want a Part ex.

If I do decide to sell my Evo, much as I like the RS6, I would probably buy a 335i and chip it, possibly add an LSD and uprate the brakes. You've sorted the DRC, but I would still have a lingering worry about the autobox on a mapped RS6.

On a serious note with the economic climate as it is you'll have to offer this at a very low price for it to move quickly.

Have to agree - last year I'd have looked at A8s and S8s thinking - that's a great value big V8 car - I could probably run and enjoy it.

This year it's an absolute no way - almost regardless of price. Not saying I represent the market but generally I imagine that's what many folks are thinking.

That said - it will always sell for the right price. It's almost like you need to compete to sell it I guess. 6months unsold will probably cost more in real depreciation than just being very competitive now. It's also a very niche / specialist market with fussy buyers - not like punting a 1.8 focus...

I swapped my A3 3.2 for a A8 4.2 earlier this year, and the A8 returns better mpg on motorway runs than the A3 ever did.

Typically at 70-75 the A3 did 28mpg whilst the A8 is returning 30-34
At 80ish the A3 did 26mpg, the A8 is returning ~30
At 90ish the A3 was down to 24ish and the A8 is doing ~28.

However, around town the A8 is worse, I guess due to the weight. Overall, with the mixture of driving that I'm doing, the A8 is coming out slightly down on mpg than the A3, but if my driving ratio was more motorway focused, it would swing the other way.

Cracking motor by the way, I was toying with the idea of an RS6, and still would if the right deal came along.

A few Scoobynetters have had RS6s and it would seem that it isn't just the amount of fuel it uses that kills the bank balance. I seem to remember that stuff like brakes and tyres are massively expensive and servicing certainly isn't on a par with the average A6. In the end you're trying to find a buyer who needs a huge car with huge performance for about £20k and can afford running costs that are on a par with a Ferrari. Strangely you'd probably have more luck if it was a newer car and twice the price. I'd trade it in and accept you own a nice car at the wrong time.

Keep it and buy an old Mondeo diesel for the day to day crap. You will lose more than the extra running costs in high depreciation on the RS6 if you sell.
Plus this is likely the last time in your life you'll be able to own and enjoy such a car unless you become a millionaire. So enjoy.

You could buy, tax and insure a cheap runaround for a lot less than you'll loose trying to sell in the current market.

Exactly what i think i will be doing soon. Partly down to the current cost of fuel but more so; my company are moving shortly so I will lose a fully secured underground car park and gain a side street in a sh*t area!

Keep it and use it for a few bank jobs - that should offset the running costs.

Car market seems as dead as the housing market! Take away that easy credit and many people just lose the ability to buy - regardless if they want to or not.

Factor in rocketing fuel prices, and obviously demand for thirty stuff will fall.

I'll be looking to get rid of my A3 2.0 TDi Sport soon, so hopefully prices for those have held up ok, but I still expect to lose a fair chunk.

Gorgeous car and this time last year you would have sold it in an instant. Nobody is buying performance cars at the moment, the market has gone the same way as the housing market... people are just too nervous to buy as we are on the brink of recession.

Things will either pick up or go completely Frank Spencer by the end of the year/beginning of next. You'll have to give it away before then...

It's interesting how people say you shouldn't sell because you'll "lose" money in depreciation. You've already lost the money. The RS6 is worth what it is worth whether you have that money in cash or if it is tied up in the car itself. If you sell the RS6 it won't cost you money to change provided you choose a cheaper car. If you swap for a 40 grand diesel then it will cost you more overall, but provided you are sensible you should be able to get a very nice car and still be quids in.

I have to agree that the performance car market is pretty much dead. That was one of the reasons I moved on my T20 and bought a 335D in May. For the first time ever I probably did the right thing at the right time.

I usually hang on too long and loose out. This time I got lucky.

This is on topic, as I really do blame this Government and the mealy mouthed crap it spouts about Green issues etc... as car drivers we're being taxed into the ground from all sorts of angles and the roads are really shocking with scameras, sneakily lowered speed limits, road works and so much other agro that car ownership is really suffering.

I saw a piece the other night where a copper did a Porsche Driver for speeding as he was on his way to sell it, and said to the Camera, well maybe he'll learn his lesson and get something slower and more sensible!

That says it all.. we really are being forced to go down the route of buying mediocre... forget your aspirations to own something special and enjoy it...
