Car went yesterday... but not the Scooby
Well finally got the shell of my Mk2 Golf GTI off the drive yesterday after 2 years of highs and lows:
Highs & Positives:
Having a spare car was very useful when others let you down.
Learnt a lot about car mechanics especially when breaking it.
The driving experience was great when it was running well, actually more comfortable than my WRX.
When it wasn't, it was never to hard to fix.
Power steering is not really needed in a car but ABS is!
Still a good community around VWs
Parts are easy to find in breakers and on auction sites, places like Euro Car Parts and GSF still pretty good too.
Lows & Negatives
People think you are a hooligan (having the Scooby keep that image up!)
Cost - it will always cost you more than you think...
Being moaned at for bits in the house, garage a mess, driveway covered in car parts....not that thats changed.
Having to buy tools to be able to do work yourself - but it does mean I have a decent set up now.
Not having a garage to work inside on the car.
Having to break the car to get maximum return - probably made double than selling the car as a whole.
Not being able to keep it
Would I do it again? Well funds allowing yes, but without a garage big enough to have the car and tools in, then no.
