E36 325 coupe vs pug 205 1.9 gti Track Cars
A little decision im trying to make at the moment, both are going to cost roughly the same circa £1500 - £3000 (done). But what would you go for.
Im really keen on the rwd bmw as it opens up the drift element aswell, they are obviously quite abit heavier but have that lovely 6 cylinder motor.
The pug is alway so highly rated though, but isn't everyone doing it?
I know im a bit vague, but anyone got any thoughts on the matter?!

I've owned a pug 1.9 Gti before and they're lovely cars. But personally, I'd go for the 325i. Quite a bit faster and, as you said, opens up the drift element.
Just check out the price of spares and consumables like discs and pads, oil, etc... That may have an effect on your decision.
Nick.

I went for the 205 mainly because i have always like them and never really been interested in bmws. Also you will find a better selection of off the shelf competition parts for the peugeot over the bmw and also at more reasonable price.Up to you though as if you want to go drifting then the bmw will be the better bet

my mates had both, he misses the pug but loves his bmw he has at the mo. it is a very tough choice. the best way to look at it is there both fun cars but the costs of running them are very different. that is what id be thinking about.

As for running costs, i cant see either of them doing more than 2-3k miles a year so im not so worried about that, couple of hundred quid give or take.

Think he's in the process of creating a E30 'ring' track car, but should give you an idea.

It's finished now and can be seen in action at Combe on Saturday.
I have both a 1.9 205 and an E30 (not E36) BMW. The E30 is better prepared than the 205 but they are both great fun to drive
I think the E30 will be quicker than the 205 but in fairness it will take a fair amount of time before I get to that point.

Tough one as totally different cars...
E36 did win in the Evo test but the event that the Pug should of won, the driver crashed.
If you're doing a track like Cadwell, I'd take the Pug. For Bedford, I'd take the E36.
As mentioned, more off the the shelf and tuning parts for the Pug too.
I had a 205 Mi16 on twin webbers, stripped out roll cage, loads of other work running in the region on 220bhp. It was all over the back of cars like Boxters, DC2's etc at Brand Hatch. Kinda miss it (missus doesn't though - she hated climbing over door bars etc).
