Does anyone know what output is possible from a Pug 205 Gti (1.9). I hillclimb and sprint a reasonably modified one, but its going to the engine builders for a serious re-build.

~ Lightented and balancing bottom end
~ Lightened and balanced rods,
~ New or bored out liners,
~ forged pistons,
~ ported inlet manifold
and 3d Mappable DTA ECU


Its currently got around 150BHP at the wheels with a 310 CAM. I've been told around 200BHP at the fly one setup properly on a rolling road.

Does this sound reasonable ???

 

have u tried LAD developments the pug gurus...they have a website i just cant remeber the url... 200bhp sounds doable from the 1900cc, theres also the mi16 (405) conversion for more potential...

It was an ex-LAD motor. Since then we've ripped it apart. I don't wish to go any further on this matter, but its not going back.

The cylinder head, block, gearbox and diff have to of original type and material, but can be modified. Ie bored out, flowed, limited slip diff can be fitted as its internals only.

So unfortunately it rules out an Mi15 head.

 

I have the same XU 1.9i,(tho not in a 205) dropped a mail to LAD asking for ideas \ costs, got no reply. They won't be getting my business.

It will be about 2 weeks or so before we can get the engine fitted back into the shell I think. Following that we need the ECU fitting and setting up on a rolling road (about 2 days !!!).

I'll publish an update as work goes on if you wish.

We have a deadline of 23 March to get the car fully built as the season starts with a "practice" session.

 

LAD used to do a 170bhp conversion too I think. They now sell a 205GTi 2000 which is 160bhp.

Turbo Technics conversion put out around 190bhp IIRC.

I would say 200 is possible but probably at the limits of the engine, any figure between 170 and 200 would be mental in a 205

Bear in mind that we've got around 150BHP at the wheels currently, (guessing 170BHP at the flywheel). Its VERY peaky with its current cam, pulls well from 5000RPM through to a cut of 7300. However current ECU means that it doesn't produce any more power above 6000RPM as it's not fuelling properly.

The changes we are making allows it to breath much better, will provide more fuel (via the engine management) and hopefully we'll be able to use the full capability of the cam (5500 to 8500).

Its very wierd to drive as in 2nd gear in the dry it will pull away at around 3500 without spluttering then spins both fronts wildly when the cam comes in at about 5000 !!!

 

although they are citroen specialist, you have to try GMC (www.gmcmotorsport.co.uk) they can answer any question that you want on a pug 0r cit. motor.

nowadays LAD has a bad bad reputation among people.

 

Depends what you do with the engine, my friend has a 2.1 Mass Peugeot Powered 205. Absolutely mental car on carbs, producing 200bhp at the wheels (proven). Scarey as ****, especially in the wet...

i have a racing solution 205,aprox 200bhp,all from a 8v,this car has done a 1/4 mile in 13.8 secs and is up for sale £2000ono
to be honest im having trouble selling it!!

 

Oh yeah its got to stay below 2000CC otherwise I end up in the modified Production car class over 2000cc which includes Impreza's and Evo's. Been there done that, got the bank account (no money) to prove it

turbo technics 205 puts out 175bhp & 185ft/lb at the flywheel at high boost (10psi). deals with it very well, more of a torque thing than power. a friend has an integra type r and he struggles to stay with me - more weight and less torque/peaky engine. not as good round corners as him, but a quafe atb lsd is on the shopping list

heard some unflattering things about LAD from different sources, don't know how true they are, no experience of them myself either way. people seem to have flattering things to say about skip brown tho, and puma racing sound like they know what they are doing. check out nick r's pug forum lots of advice to be found.

Just out of interest, if your ecu is having trouble with the fuelling, why cant you fit a rising rate fse fuel pressur regulator? Surely this would automatically compensate and give you he fuelling you want at the top for less money?

 

I can't remember the exact rev cut on a standard 205 1.9 (around 6200 ?) but we are using revs WAY above it.

Last season we've used revs to around 7200, but this coming season its being lightened, balanced etc, so that we can use the full revs for the cam fitted (5500 ~ 8500)

We need an ECU which can be mapped to around 8500. I'm not sure that increasing the fuel pressure alone would give the gains that we're after.
