On hp we were eventually offered just over 700 for the 535d M Sport in metallic Carbon Black, and that included black dakota leather, 19" double spoke wheels, privacy glass, visibility pack, head up display (cool looking but i never really concentrated on what it told me, just thought it looked cool), sport transmission and hmm cant think of anything else. O yes Hi-Fi Logic7 or something sound as the bloomen Media Pack would sky rocket the HP and yes, we selected a basic Sat Nav, as again the business pack was cost a lot.
We selected minimal both important options to our needs and they dropped from around 780 or something down to 724 if i remember correctly. However due to the rubbish BMW service we ended up taking it out on contract hire as we werent bothered about keeping after the term was complete. All going through our business with Lombard who really look after us

Fuel consumption is the one to watch. My mate get's top twenties out of his on average. That's a combo of M1 for 200 miles and some town work, back lane's etc.......
5th gear test a 635d and drove to Europe at 56 mpg with the odd 'squirt' manged 100miles short of the 650 they expected. They are £70 to fill, according to the AA the average cost per litre is now £1.09 which equates to 14.14 gallons, in turn that means it averaged 38.9 mpg @ 56 mph. That is 25% less than BMW quote their Extra-urban (mpg) cycle.
I would give the £4500 cheaper 235hp 530d a look. It is 10% better than the 535 on fuel. Some saving to be had there.

I had one. Great car. Averaged 32.8mpg over the time I had it, so fuel "economy" is not the cars forte. A 530d would give you closer to 40mpg as an average.
Overall the car was awesome and I miss it.

The 335d/535d engines are fantastic. 286bhp/426ftlbs out the box, and can be mapped to circa 340bhp/500ftlbs.
I have a 335d and get circa 34mpg local, and can get 40mpg + on the motorway "making progress".
If it's a company purchase, and not your own money, buying new is ok, but for a private purchase, I would look at something 6-12 months old, where they can already have dropped by 25%.
Mark.

And again, if it's not your money get a white one with the 19's and rear tints.
I saw a white one a few weeks back (looks ) and wished I could have persuaded the wife to have a white one but no, she chose Carbon black
