Was partially considering one of these for the missus and myself, as we need to go to a small car with decentish economy, but still with some fun factor in it.

We can get a totally standard VXR for 14k from Arnold Clark, but i think we'll be trying to go for the Cooper S even though it's 2k more. Returns 10MPG more than the Corsa and tax/insurance/depreciation is better.

My mate had one, only kept it for 6weeks. In his own words after 100mph it was gutless.

Where in the UK do you need to do more than 100mph on a regular basis?

I had a good look around one in the summer.

Now. I usually hate Vauxhalls.

I totally fell in love with the VXR; great looking little car, awesome front seats, surprising amount of room in the back.. If I was in the market for a small hatch, it is most definitely the one I'd have. Evo magazine has a review of the new tuning package done at the VXR place in Banbury this month as well..just in case you want some more poke.

I actually rather like the VXR range. Just one problem with all but the VXR 8. FWD!!!

16k is for a basic CooperS, you need to add another 2k if you want the essential Chili pack for air con etc....
We bought a Cooper with the intention of getting an S until the salesman said 'thats 18k please'.
Apparently without Chili packs they are buggers to sell on.

Local guy here has just dropped the bottom end on his... although it had been re-mapped, but apparently on the owners club, there have been another 5 or so with similar problems.... tapping noise from engine, losing the oil pressure.... not too sure if the others were mapped or standard, but doesnt look great if a basic re-map can cause problems.

Did the Corsa VXR not set a really good time on the Ring?? Surely thats got a reasonable amount of 100+ driving and inclines...

Cheers,
Grant

I think it is a superb looking little car!

There is a black one down my road and it looks absolutely lovley. I would definitely consider it along with the Fiesta ST if I was looking for a small hot hatch. I think it looks much better than the fiesta!

The Fiesta ST is, imo, a real disappointment. Should have had another 40bhp as standard at least

I know it's 16k for the basic, but i WON'T be giving them the 2 extra grand for the Chili pack.

I'd rather pay less for the car and know i'd need to sell it less than one with all the toys.

Just because you buy air-con for £600 odd quid, doesn't mean you'll get an extra £600 when coming to selling it on in 2-3 years time.

Just so you realise a Cooper S with out the Chili Pack is like Wise without Morecambe. Come trade-in you'll struggle to get rid without taking a big hit. Chili pack is essential, otherwise they'll subtract that £2k from the book price. Remember the book price will assume the chili pack is on the car, as over 90% will have it.

It's all percentage based though.

If i pay 2 grand extra ontop of the base price, i'd expect to sell it cheaper than if i HAD paid the extra 2k. But i doubt very much in 2 years time, when i come to sell it on, Joe Public will come along and say, the guy down the road is selling a Chili packed S, with the rest of the spec the same and i'll give him 2 grand more than you! I seriously doubt that. True it may be EASIER to sell on than without, but no matter WHAT car you buy, you will never get all the money you spent on extra's back.

Just to add, i really hate this "You've gotta buy this and that so it'll be worth more." attitude. I buy a car cause i want to and not what other people suggest. I'm gonna loose the same amount as any other Mini (if we buy one), all in a percentage base.

Apart from the cost and residual value, I really don't think I could buy a car now without A/C, it's a must imo, ok our summers aren't always that great but even on the odd hot day we have, the A/C is a godsend.

.....and to be honest, on a car that price I think BMW should be ashamed of themselves for even selling a car without A/C in this day and age.

I'm 20 miles North of Glasgow though and air-con on it's own is close on £700. I have HAD air-con and pretty much never use it tbh, so why do i want to pay all that extra money, for something i won't use and will maybe get 3-400 quid more come selling on time?

That's fair enough mate, if it's not something you would use, then don't bother.

I would though

The Mini's are already too expensive IMHO and i don't wanna give them any more money than i need to. I MIGHT have been interested in the Bi-xenon light's, but again at nearly £500, i'm questioning if they would be worth it. Vauxhall are only charging £250 IIRC for them on the VXR.

That's what I mean, for the price I really think there should be a lot more included in the price with the mini than what you actually get.
