Default astra vxr...

A bloke i work with has just bought an 07 plate blue astra vxr, and hes been bragging constantly for 2days and begining to do my nut in. any facts i can mention that will knock him down a peg or 2? ive got a classic uk turbo wagon with full decat, dawes and fcd at 1.2 bar. his previous car was a focus 1.8 which he ragged to death, he drives like a tool most of the time and has crashed every car he has owned one way or another, cant imagine how he will handle 240hp!

thanks

Rich

i had a blast in a vxr a few times they really are'nt as bad as people make out.a good commited driver in a vxr would be hard to beat.like above the scoob has him in grip on the twisty stuff but in real terms on the open road,he would'nt be a million miles behind.....

Give him the number for a local roadside recovery company and tell him to keep it with him as he will need it when he ends up in a ditch!

Totally agree and a good driver would keep up, but a Scoob flatters a crap driver (thats why i bought one)

I'd just remain quiet and if you ever have a go against it try and ensure the runs are either in the tight twisties or off the line. If you have the classic off a motorway roundabout duel from say 30-100mph you could end up with egg on your face.

Failing all that buy a Spec C

A decat and dawes at 1.2 bar is probably only around 260-65bhp though - a far cry from a 300bhp classic import which no doubt has shorter gearing also.

Even a lightly modded Classic would pan a VXR - up to 100 anyway.

A VXR is over 100kgs heavier than a Classic Scoob

My std 99 UK Classic with a sports cat + ss exhaust out dragged a Focus ST. It was close, but the difference was noticeable enough for a clean pass.

The Astra is going to be pretty much the same as the Focus, and you will be quicker than me

I remain doubtful - I think 260bhp classic UK scooby would be neck and neck with a VXR from say 30-130mph. I have no way of knowing since I own neither car

Well my personal opinion is the Scoob woudl be quicker up to 100 (ish) then the Astra having front wheel drive (less loss) and certainly more slippery through the air would be quicker as the speeds rose.

From a standing start, maybe, but not once rolling from say 30 mph it wouldn't.

Note to self - Kenny demonstrating something other than being "a useless ****" for once

A lightly modded classic pushes around 260 ish or so plus is over 100kgs lighter, from 30 to 100 it would be quicker than a VXR, not by much but it would be.

Just trust me on this one

Truth is when the vxr is in your rear view mirror going smaller and smaller your point is made and therefore no need to reach stupid speeds above 100mph.
Let's not forget the 2.8 V6 VXR vectra according to Vauxhall Vectra VXR (05 on) Review - Parker's are 280Bhp but would you pay 25K new and after 3 years be only worth just under 8k

Having said that were all bleating on about modded cars here - nowt stopping the VXR owner when he gets dusted upping the power on his, 300bhp in one of those i bet is an experiance.

Vauxhall should have made a 4wd version though!!!!

i don't think he'd be that small in the rear view before 100mph.put the two down a quarter mile drag strip and im sure there would be nothing in it....mayby a car length?

Why not both stand in front of the receptionist and drop your trousers, and she can judge whose is bigger?

Generally you need a good 100bhp to make a clear difference on the road for sure. Any smaller bhp gap and it's all down to the gear, traction, driver etc etc to make a difference. (assume torque levels not worlds apart either) Net: I'd say you need 340bhp to show cleaning pair of heels.
