Default VAG engine cambelt change now every 4 years !

Just had a letter from the local Skoda dealer for my wife's Fabia.

Before there was no time stated for cambelt change only mileage.

VAG have now issued a 4 yearly time schedule across the brands.

My Wifes Fabia will be 4 next service.

So anyone know how much a cambelt change is on a 1.9PD diesel?

Cheers
Lee

Have VAG been having a few failures on older low mileage cars?

Look on honestjohn.co.uk there is some info about the VAG cambelt issue. Also you'd be wise to change the waterpump at the same time which of course means extra cost.

That is certainly true on the 1.8T engines, not so sure about the other units.

Maybe it's just the 1.8T then, but I thought there was a weakness on the 1.9 diesel as well. Could be wrong though.

I work for VW, and tbh it is advisory to change waterpump when changing cambelt. They do **** up on the odd occassion

I have a cambelt on my ramp at work atm with a cambelt failure.... Needs a new cylinder head.

Alright Lee Parkway VW in Derby do the cambelt, water pump and all tensioners for £300. I had my golf done there earlier this year and very happy with the level of service they gave. Mine's the 1.8T, but from reading around on the VW sites, it appears that it was a general drop to 4 years across the board with the MkIVs.

Hope you're doing well these days dude

Fine thank's Hanslow.

I'll try my two local Skoda dealers then give Derby a call. May as well get everything done at once.

My wife's had the Fabia from new and only done 22k miles, I was going to swap it at three years but it still looks and drives like new.

Cheers
