Quite serious(ish)
A mate runs a project Nova (I know I know) and its currently running something like this.
4.8 0-60
12.4 1/4 mile
140 top speed in a mile (before i shat it)
194.5 bhp
125 nitrous
The 12.4 was WITH gas.
Its a 2.0, stripped out, road legal etc.
Got some more info on it somewhere, but the most impressive thing to me, is the fact that he built the whole thing outside his house on the street in his spare time between work etc. All for under 5k including original car.
So, its not a scooby, but I really wanna know what people think of the times, especially for a FWD.
Reason being, a little battle broke out when he mentioned the figures on another forum (mine) Between 2 Cosworth fanatics and a few others..

Cool project
Too many car snobs on this BBS that don't realise a well sorted Nova would destroy most of the Imprezas on here round a twisty track. One with this power would have the measure of most of the Imprezas on this BBS period.
Hugely underrated - for years the Nova was the small saloon car of choice for club racing/rallying. Throw some decent struts, springs and shocks at them for very little cost and they were simply fantastic.
Great little cars. Had two SRs years ago when insurance became obscene. Even as bog standard they handled well and went ok.
Great figures Snazy, no question.

140 in a Nova, that must have been terrifying, never the best built car.
Very impressive figures, plenty quick enough for most.
Would love a brown booted Nova with a 2.0. tartan rug on the back shelf, what a sleeper. Trouble is theres none left.

Its not that special.. but the fact that its all been done on a budget and outside on the road thats very good. I work on mine in the road as my drive is too steep for jacking on.. Its a pain!
Changed a full set of leaf springs on my big old land rover in the road that was fun!

Very impressive I reckon, especially in terms of bang for bucks.
It would be a bit of a piggie to drive, especially if it's got a diff. But for straight lines, you cannot argue with those times, for that money.
Novas mean different things to different men. To most, it means "chavvy boy racer Saturday night special". But Nova's made fantastic competition cars: anyone who remembers the late Dave Metcalfe flinging an underpowered GTE around the forests and the Manx lanes, beating up Cosworths and Legacys along the way will testify.
Still got mine, this was 12 years ago.

Fair play Olly, nice to hear educated opinions, rather than those from people with over inflated ego's like a couple of cossie owners I know. lol
He was at TOTB this year in the Nogo...Listed in the results I believe.

You don't always need 2.0 motors either.
Some 1400's can be made to go rather well...

My mum had one, my brother 'modified' it, he was working for Kwik-Save and the lazy manager asked him to take the cash box to the bank, perhaps half a mile on his way home, he wasnt happy so he drove there and yanked the cash box off the back seat, it got caught on the headrest/seat so he give it and extra hard yank to move it at which point it filled the car with orange smoke, indelible orange dye, Kwik Save replaced the interior but there was always some traces left.
I have fond memories of Nova's cos one Christmas I was skint so I bought one with HG trouble to sell, paid £200 bought a HG set and fluid for £50 and did it (bit of help from my dad) and then sold it for £900 to the first buyer a week later, Christmas paid for !

Very Impressive.
Never underestimate the speed of small cars, especially things that either have an engine transplant or a turbo.
I was passed by a 2.0 turbo Nova a few years back. I was in my 300bhp Opel Manta (4 x 4 Cossie powered - recently nicked barstewards)

anything into the 12 second bracket for a fwd is very good. Personally I think anything turbo that can spin the wheels from throttle alone in 3rd or higher isn't much use to drive but impressive numbers.
Nova also doesn't mean No Go, that's like reading therapist as The Rapist (thanks mythbusters ).
