What 7 seater?
Trying to find something other than a Zafira that isn't French and is kitted out well and looks/drives at worst OK.
So far the Zafira GSI is the only MPV i've driven and it didn't feel like 200bhp so not sure its worth the extra cost over other mpv's.

save yourself the bother of joining the 7 seater brigade as you will never feel the power properly , buy an evo5 and an STI then you have 10 seats and some money for fuel !!

I'd go down the SUV route, they are not popular amongst some but at least you dont get the "I've given up" image that you get with an MPV. 
A Jeep Commander, Disco3 or new Sante-Fe would be my main choices but at £9k I think the Shogun/Pajero is the obvious choice.

I'd like a Shogun, parents had the mk1 and mk2 when they first came out and thought they were great, particulalrly the mk2. Problem is those models seem to be driven by tarmacing p!keys now. Off to autotrader to have a look at more recent models...
Oh and would like a disco but put off by fuel consumption and servicing/parts costs.

Even the later 2.5 TD5 engine is way underpowered and unrefined.

tbh ive been over on the Paj forums, and they dont seem to be tarmacing pikeys, quite helpful really, and I snagged myself 4 Bridgestone Duellers part worn (loads of tread left on them) for £45 this evening, you would never get that for Scoob tyres

I didn't mean generally mate, just round here and thought i'd put that, sorry. My mum and dads one was a great car but heavy on juice from what I remember and tyres were anything between £100-£150 each 
I always remember the tilt/lean gadget on the dash board 
My uncle still has my mum and dads mk1 stored in a garage, I used to drive it to school and that was 17 years ago and its still going strong!

A lot of the ones I see now are really well looked after and look in mint condition, and are driven by respectable (except the caravan towers) people
Its been quite funny driving it the last few days, as I have come to realise I need to stay on the inside lane of the motorway and duel carriageways
even my 3.0 V6 isnt that quick trying to push 2.5 tonnes of aerodynamic brick through the air
I must admit I have to stop looking at the tilt and altimeter gadgets and concentrate more on the road

It's only really in the last few years that most SUV's have gained half decent performance. (Or in case of the Defender the last few months
). That's apart from the odd V8 monsters that were about.The Shogun Sport is still very underpowered but is being phased out.
Even the latest 3.2D Shogun is down on power and torque compared to it's modern rivals but with near 160bhp and 300lbft it performs far better than the old 2.8TD's and V6 petrols.

Lee - How much better do you think the new Defender is?
Under consideration.
Appears to have a Ford Transit engine (!) but a lot more torque than the Td5 it replaces and a bit more comfy.

My wife has a Honda Stream. Later newer shape ones are 6 seats compared to the pre 04 versions were 7 seater jobs. Plenty under £9k on Autotrader, 156bhp. We bought it for the reliability and build quality, was so fed up with the Citroen C3 with constant failures and trips back to the dealers. I agree with never buying a French car again.

I've not driven one in anger yet but all the reviews say it's been transformed. It now has proper on road gearing through a six speed box for relaxed motorway cruising, has overtaking performance, wont stall and is quite refined with a wide spread of torque. It's top speed is electronically limited to 82mph because of some tyre options.
The interior now has a proper ventillation system with aircon available and even electric windows.
It also has traction control as well as the locking centre diff.

Thanks for the replies. So basically if I want something that can still do decent speed comfortably on the motorway I will need to stay with the Zafira GSi. Mrs has ruled out a Shogun/Disco on size anyway as she doesn't want to be driving a 'truck'.
Seen a few GSI's though with less than 50k on the clock saying new turbo fitted so seems as though they have had issues with that model?

We have a Sharan, bought new in 2002, it works well enough at what it does but its very badly made, certainly the interior is crap considering its meant to be for tough family use. the dash has cracked.
It is however comfy, pretty economical, not too embarassingly slow (115 pd)

Reliability is not upto what it should be but at least the Disco 3 is a decent drive, refined and has enough power and torque to avoid embarrassment.
The Disco 1 and 2 on the other hand were poor to drive, unrefined and very underpowered.

We run a 2004 Galaxy TDi 130. Reasonable turn of speed when you want it, and over 40 to the gallon. We went for the Elegance model, so have leather etc. It's a great car
